Scott's Cheap Flights, an email subscription service that tracks airfare prices and alerts its 2 million members to the best deals, recently surveyed 3,000 members to find out the places they're most interested in visiting this year as well as the activities and experiences that are at the top of their United States bucket lists. The top bucket-list experience in Alaska is spotting the northern lights. Visitors will have the best chance to experience this phenomenon between August and April. Denali National Park and the Inside Passage are also big hits with travelers to the Last Frontier.

One of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is the obvious winner for the top bucket list experience in Arizona. The impressive rock formations at Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon are also highly sought-after, as is hiking the red rocks of Sedona.

If there's one experience that stands out for most travelers in California, it's surrounding yourself with giant redwood or sequoia trees in Muir Woods, Sequoia National Park or Mendocino County, Scott's Cheap Flights found. Other popular experiences in the Golden State include hiking and exploring the waterfalls of Yosemite National Park and road-tripping the scenic Pacific Coast Highway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Visiting Key West and the southernmost point in the continental U.S. is the number one bucket list experience in Florida. Travelers also want to hit the beaches in places like Miami, Destin and Sanibel Island as well as view wildlife like manatees, alligators and panthers in Crystal River and the Everglades.

Maui's breathtaking Hana Highway is the most popular bucket list experience to be had in Hawaii, followed by exploring volcanoes such as Kilauea, Mauna Kea, or Haleakala and whale watching or spotting sea turtles. The Aloha State has reopened to out-of-state visitors who can bypass mandatory 10-day quarantine with proof of a negative COVID-19 test result.

Maryland's Eastern Shore, specifically Assateague State Park, is one of the most popular destinations in the Old Line State. The barrier island is famous for the wild horses that roam its beaches. Visitors to Maryland also look to stroll the cobblestone streets of downtown Annapolis and sample the state's signature steamed blue crab in Baltimore.

The beautiful beaches of Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are the top experience in Massachusetts, followed by the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail featuring more than a dozen nationally significant historic sites. Visitors to this state also love to watch for whales, dolphins, and seals in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Park.

Touring Las Vegas is only the second-most coveted bucket list activity in Nevada, trailing hiking or biking the red sandstone rock formations of Valley of Fire State Park or Red Rock National Conservation Area. Visitors also want to swim and boat under the sun in places like Lake Mead or Lake Tahoe.

No surprises here. The Big Apple is the top bucket list destination in New York. Most visitors want to take in a Broadway show or tour some of the world's top museums, including the American Museum of Natural History and the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art. Other top New York experiences are Niagara Falls, which is the largest waterfall in North America, and camping and exploring small mountain towns in the Adirondacks or Catskills.

Visitors to South Dakota can't wait to watch for wildlife, including bison and bighorn sheep inside of Badlands National Park. The park boasts 244,000 acres of protected land that's also home to prairie dogs and black-footed ferrets. Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial are also among the state's most popular sites.

The famous San Antonio River Walk is the most coveted experience in Texas, followed by places like Big Bend National Park, the Chisos Mountains and the Chihuahuan Desert in West Texas and the Space Center in Houston.
