June events are back and they are better than ever. Some of the best summer events and festivals are making their first appearance since 2019 and almost all of them seem determined to make their June 2022 event the finest edition yet. Summer is the season of warm temperatures, long nights, once-in-a-lifetime vacations and a seemingly endless list of events and festivals and in this slideshow, you'll find everything from music festivals to quirky small-town gatherings and historical celebrations.

Almost all of the best June events and festivals on this list embrace the season with gusto by celebrating a seasonal harvest, paying respect to some fascinating aspect of American culture or just embracing the nice weather. No matter where you call home, you'll have no trouble finding a great June event near you on the following list.

The Shoals region will come alive with the rhythm of African drumming & dance and the sounds of R&B, gospel and folk storytelling at the North Alabama African Heritage Festival in Tuscumbia (June 3-4). Attendees will also be able to enjoy arts & crafts and great African food, too. Down south in Brewton, the Blueberry Festival will return on June 18 with its usual array of crafts, live entertainment and plenty of the fest's famous blueberry ice cream. In Clanton on June 25, they'll be hosting the Peach Jam, which will feature food vendors, hot air balloons and live music from Kasey Tyndall and Drake White.

Every second of summer is embraced in Alaska, and the signature event of the season is the Midnight Sun Festival in Fairbanks on June 21. The state's largest one-day event, this street party celebrates the nearly 24-hours of sunlight the city gets at this time of year with food vendors, Alaskan gifts, multiple stages of live music and the special Midnight Sun Baseball Game. Elsewhere, the Sitka Music Festival (June 3-26) will see the melodic sounds of chamber music take over venues around town and June 10-11 sees the return of the one-of-a-kind Chickenstock Music Festival to the quirky small town of Chicken, Alaska.

The mercury continues its steady rise all over the Grand Canyon State in June, but Flagstaff always stays cool in summer and this city in northern Arizona really shines in summer. Start the month off at its Hullabaloo Festival-an eclectic celebration of all things Flag'-on June 4-5, then hit up the Flagstaff Blues & Brews Festival (June 10-11) to hear national blues acts while drinking great beer in the great outdoors. Down in Phoenix, Chihuly in the Desert at the Desert Botanical Garden will run through June 19 while the beloved botanical garden will once again host its summertime Flashlight Nights tours all month long.

Start your month off in Hot Springs at the wild & wacky World Championship Running of the Tubs (June 4) which will see bathtubs raced down historic Bathhouse Row. In Little Rock, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Museum will once again throw the city's best Juneteenth celebration, with festivities taking place on June 18 set to include a 5K Walk/Run and the usual array of top-notch vendors and excellent entertainment. That same weekend will see biking mecca Bentonville host the Bentonville Bike Fest (June 18-19) and Fayetteville throw the state's largest LGTBQ Pride celebration, which features a parade and a fun Glitterville! event (June 18).

In Los Angeles, June 11-12 sees the 101 Festival celebrate the 100th season of the Hollywood Bowl with free concerts at the iconic venue and nearby space The Ford. Come back to the Hollywood Bowl on June 19 for a stellar Juneteenth celebration featuring performances by pianist and composer Robert Glasper, the Re-Collective Orchestra and The Roots. Up north, June 11-12 sees the return of the foodie heaven that is the Artichoke Festival to Monterey County while the legendary San Francisco Jazz Festival returns June 8-19.

The town of Fruita will once again be hosting its quirky Mike the Headless Chicken Festival on June 3-4, a soiree dedicated to a local bird who became nationally famous in the 1940s for managing to live without his noggin. Or, you could head to Telluride that weekend (June 3-5) for its annual balloon festival. Music lovers should definitely be in Telluride June 16-19 for the annual Bluegrass Festival (Turnpike Troubadours, Phil Lesh & Friends, Greensky Bluegrass and Tenacious D are among the performers) and last but not least, the 100th Greeley Stampede kicks off in Greeley on June 23 (running through early July) and will feature its usual array of Western events and A-list entertainment.

Norwalk starts off the month with its "Docktails & Oysters" event on June 4, which will feature fresh seafood and tropical drinks while Essex is the place to be to enjoy some wonderful maritime music at the inaugural Connecticut Sea Music Festival (June 10-13). End your month at the Mystic River Jam Festival (June 24-25) where you'll be able to listen to live rock, reggae, blues and country.

Wilmington is the place to be for the Street Food Festival (June 4), the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival (June 15-18) and for the annual tradition that is the St. Anthony's Italian Festival (June 12-19), one of the largest Italian-American cultural events in the nation. Elsewhere in the state, June 10 sees the June kickoff of the cherished summer concert series at the historic Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, a true rite of the summer in these parts.

Kick off summer with a bang in Panama City at the Gulf Coast Jam, a three-day (June 2-5) country music festival that will feature Florida Georgia Line, Brooks & Dunn and Old Dominion among dozens of others. That same weekend (June 3-4), Funkfest will take over the Central Florida Fairgrounds and will feature sets by Mary J. Blige, Jazmine Sullivan and Jodeci. Down in the Keys, Key West Pride will paint the island in rainbow colors June 1-5 while the Conch Republic will also host "all things mango" at the Mango Festival June 23-26. June also sees several watermelon festivals, with the towns of Chiefland (June 4) and Monticello (June 17-18) hosting two of the sweetest.

The first weekend of the world-renowned Peach Festival will take place in Fort Valley June 3-4 and it will once again feature plenty of peach-themed events (think record-breaking peach cobblers) and live music. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is the place to be June 4-5 for the Flying Colors Butterfly Festival, where guests can experience the wonder of the butterfly world firsthand. Make sure you are in ATL for the Juneteenth Atlanta Parade & Music Festival (June 17-19), which will feature free concerts and a black history parade.

Make for Maui's?paradisiacal Kapalua Resort June 9-12 for the 41st annual Kapalua Wine & Food Festival, which will be heaven for food & wine lovers. Or, instead, head to Honolulu that weekend to take in the remarkable King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade on June 11 (King Kamehameha Day) which pays tribute to one of the islands' legendary monarchs. For the record, that weekend will see celebrations all over Hawai'i dedicated to King Kamehameha, but this procession will be followed by a cultural fair at Kapiolani Park complete with Hawai'i made gifts, hula and sensational food.

Also in Honolulu, each weekend in June will see the 50th State Fair take place at Aloha Stadium, a fun annual event that will once again feature carnival rides, tasty food, live entertainment and all sorts of fair diversions.

The small town of Emmett will be toasting their cherished local fruit at the Cherry Festival (June 15-18) while in Boise, June 15 marks the kick off of Alive After Five, a free summer concert series downtown. And if you find yourself anywhere near Filer, Idaho towards the end of the month, stop in to enjoy the Hwy 30 Music Festival (June 22-25), which brings rock, red dirt, Americana and country music to this wonderful mountain town. Finish your month off in the town of Malad where they will once again be celebrating their Welsh heritage at the Malad Valley Welsh Festival (June 24-26) with traditional Welsh games, poetry readings and great grub.

You can have a ball all over the Land of Lincoln in June, but since hardly anywhere in the nation embraces summer quite like Chicago, just head there and wait for the fun to sweep you away. Start the month off at the Lincoln Park Greek Festival (June 3-5), a soiree dedicated to feta, gyros, and singing & dancing before hearing the sound of Blues take over Millenium Park June 9-12 during the world's largest free Blues festival. Classical music lovers should circle June 15 on their calendar as it marks the kick-off of the Grant Park Music Festival-a beloved rite of summer in Chicago-while hip hop lovers should look forward to June 17-19, when the Summer Smash Hip Hop Festival takes over Douglas Park with performances by Wiz Khalifa, Post Malone, Playboi Carti and a joint set by Young Thug and Gunna.

The town of Edinburgh, Indiana is turning 200 this year and they will be throwing a two-day birthday bash on June 10-11 which will feature everything from food trucks to hot air balloon rides and vintage games. Barbecue lovers will want to be in Fort Wayne June 16-19 for the 25th annual BBQ Ribfest, while June 24-26 sees the 50th Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering take over Battle Ground, Indiana for three days of performances and plenty of other fiddle-related fun. Meanwhile in Indianapolis, the Eiteljorg Museum's Indian Market and Festival (June 25-26) will bring native American art and culture to life.

Country music fans will want to make a beeline for Forest City as Country Thunder will once again take over town June 10-12 with headliners like Lee Brice, Kip Moore and Chris Young. A week later, the 64th annual State Center Rose Festival will celebrate all things rose and the best way to end June with a bang in Des Moines will be at the 25th annual Des Moines Arts Festival, a fiesta that features talented artists from around the nation, great food and a lineup of A-list entertainment like G. Love & Special Sauce, Moon Taxi, Chicago Farmer and Sarah Shook & the Disarmers.

Riverfest-The Sunflower State's biggest annual outdoor soiree-returns to Wichita June 3-11, bringing with it the usual array of fun events like classic car shows, fireworks, fun runs and a carnival. The nightly concerts are the highlight for many and this year they will feature War, Willie Nelson & Family, Gov't Mule, Fiesta Del Rio and The Family Stone. Elsewhere in Kansas, Old Shawnee Days will fill the town of Shawnee with all-American fun from June 2-5 and the town of Lindsborg will pay homage to its Swedish heritage with traditional Scandinavian fun during its Midsummers' Festival on June 11.

Start your month by reflecting on the worldwide impact of boxer Muhammad Ali through a series of art, history and fitness events at the Ali Festival in Louisville (June 3-9) or head to Danville for the Great American Brass Band Festival (June 2-5). The first two weeks of the month will be a great time to sip an Old Fashioned in the 'Ville, as June 1-14 has been dubbed the "Old Fashioned Fortnight" in Louisville and is set to see over 40 establishments whip up their own take on the iconic cocktail. Last but not least, The Shakespeare Festival in Louisville's Central Park will be putting on performances outdoors all month long.

Start your month in Krotz Springs at the Sportsmen's Heritage Festival (June 2-4) where the wonderful wetlands and woodlands of the area are celebrated with gusto. That weekend will also see the Louisiana Peach Festival take place in Ruston featuring live music, art, mouthwatering food and plenty of peaches. New Orleans never takes a month off and the city will celebrate the culture, cuisine and music of Southwest Louisiana at the Cajun-Zydeco festival on June 11-12 and then end the month in style as the legendary Essence Festival kicks off on June 30 with its usual fascinating array of cultural events and a set by comedian Kevin Hart.

It isn't summer in Maine until Portland's held its beloved Summer Kickoff Weekend and this year's event will take place June 7-9. Bounce between simultaneous musical performances downtown during the Friday night Square Hop while soaking up the atmosphere of various dockside diversions the rest of the weekend. Late June is the best time to head over to Boothbay Harbor as June 26 sees the kickoff of its iconic Windjammer Days festival which will once again pay tribute to the maritime heritage of the area with a series of events like boat parades, cod races, seafood and firework shows.

Ocean City will be the setting for the "bands, beer and beach" of the Jellyfish Festival on June 5, while in Annapolis, Arts Week (June 5-12) will show off the city's creative side with everything from art workshops to improv, theater, sculpture and comedy. Baltimore is the best place to be over Juneteenth Weekend (June 18-19) as the AFRAM Festival returns to Druid Hill Park, with the festival set to celebrate Baltimore's rich African-American heritage and feature concerts from such names as Ne-Yo, El Debarge, Yung Bleu, Le'andria Johnson and the O'Jays.

The Boston Dragon Boat Festival will return on June 11-12 and will once again treat Bostonians to a weekend of Asian cultural performances, tantalizing food offerings and the excitement of dragon boat racing on the Charles River. Cross your fingers for a steamy summer day on June 18 as that's the date for the annual all-you-can-eat ice cream festival known as Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl, which will take place at Patriot Place in Foxborough. Film lovers will want to take the ferry to Nantucket for the Nantucket Film Festival (June 22-27) and last but not least, the Green River Festival returns to the Franklin County Fairgrounds on June 24-26 with a lineup that includes Father John Misty, Natu Camara, Guster, Waxahatchee, Las Cafeteras and many more.

To say that folks from "The Mitten" are smitten with summer would be a major understatement and June is the month it really kicks into high gear. The month starts off with a bang with the Original Lavender Festival (June 3-4) celebrating a 'symphony for the senses" at Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds, Mackinac Island welcoming back its beloved Lilac Festival (June 3-12), and Frankenmuth sporting its best lederhosen and bouncing to polka during its annual Bavarian Festival (June 9-12). A highlight of the back half of June is Harborfest in South Haven (June 17-18), which will once again celebrate long summer days on the lake with dragon boat races, great food and live entertainment.

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden comes alive with the sounds of indie music on June 11th at Rock the Garden, while the small town of Grand Rapids will celebrate the 100th birthday of its most famous daughter Judy Garland with three days of fun at the Judy Garland Festival while the Twin Cities will be laughing out loud at the Minneapolis Comedy Festival (June 13-19). Oh, and did you know that waterskiing was invented in Lake City, Minnesota? The town is very proud of this fact and celebrates it each year during Water Ski Days (June 23-26), an event that features concerts, parades and a thrilling waterski show. The last weekend of the month is also the time for Paul Bunyan Days in the town of Akeley, a celebration of the town's legendary former resident.

Biloxi is the place to be June 9-19 as the South Mississippi Summer Fair will bring its family-friendly collection of rides, live entertainment and contests to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Tupelo will come together to toast The King at the annual Elvis Festival (June 8-12), where the town's most famous native son will be celebrated with live Elvis tribute acts, a 5K and assorted activities honoring his impact on the world of music. Finally, once again they'll be serving up "culture on a plate" in Natchez at the Soul Food Fusion Festival June 17-19.

Start your month off in West Plains at the 39th annual Bluegrass Festival (June 2-4) or head to KC to toast Italian heritage and food during the Festa Italiana (June 3-5). On the other side of the Show-Me State, the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival will be putting on a free production of Much Ado About Nothing in Forest Park all month long (June 1-26) while they'll be raising a glass to summer and St. Louis' connection to cocktail history on June 11 at the Central West End Cocktail Party.

Big Sky Country comes alive in the summertime with long sunny days and nights filled with fun, and in Bozeman, June 10 marks the start of Art Walks-a monthly event where galleries open their doors and local musicians play on Main Street. Pioneer Power Days will return to Lewiston Airport on June 11-12 and will celebrate the lifestyle of early 1900s Montana. The small town of Dillon will host its June Jubilee on June 11, once again featuring carnival games, pie-eating contests and an adorable rubber duck race.

June in Omaha is synonymous with one event: The College World Series. From June 16-27, the squads and their fans from all over the country will descend on the town for one of America's best sporting events and you're invited to get in on the fun. Elsewhere in the Cornhusker State, Nebraskaland Days Rodeo & Concert Festival will take place June 15-25 in North Platte and Norfolk will once again pay respect to native son Johnny Carson at the Great American Comedy Festival (June 16-18).

The Strip will be sizzling all month long, and the weather will be pretty warm outside, too. The Jonas Brothers kick off their long-awaited residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM on June 3, with Luke Bryan, Shania Twain, Sting and Justin Bieber being other big names set to perform in Sin City during the month. Elsewhere, the Winnemucca Basque Festival will celebrate Basque traditions (everything from food to unique sports) from June 11-12 while the Nevada Women's Film Festival (June 23-26) will feature over 60 global films possessing strong female leads.

Gorgeous lakeside Laconia will play host to the 99th annual Motorcycle Week June 11-19, an event that is considered the world's oldest motorcycle rally. Flat Track events, concerts, rides and scores of other special events make this rally truly something special for riders and those who just love a summer party. After the bikes, make for Hampton Beach for the Sand Sculpting Classic (June 16-18) before heading to downtown Concord June 23-25 for the 48th annual Market Days Festival-a legendary street party full of shopping finds, food booths and excellent live music.

Jersey starts really jumping in June and all up and down the state, you'll find fun things to do under the sun. The Atlantic City Beer & Music Festival (June 4-5) will combine great suds with the sounds of New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio; Barefoot Country Music Festival will rock the sands of Wildwood with big names like Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean; State Fair Meadowlands returns to East Rutherford for 18 days of carnival rides, tasty snacks and unforgettable live entertainment on June 23.

Red River is the place to be June 17-19 for the annual Art & Wine Festival-an event that will touch all of your senses-while Albuquerque will come alive with the clack of castanets and the entrancing rhythms of flamenco at the Festival Flamenco (June 11-18). Up in Santa Fe, June 10 marks the kick-off of a season of free shows at the Summer Plaza & Railyard Music Series and June 22-25 sees the return of the Rodeo de Santa Fe.

The buzz is back in the Big Apple and there's a host of special events to choose from to kick your summer off right. For starters, the Tribeca Film Festival is June 8-19, June 11 is the opening night of the free SummerStage concert series performances (Herbie Hancock and Keyon Harrold perform in Central Park) and June 18 sees the long-awaited return of the quirky Mermaid Parade to Coney Island. Upstate, June 3-4 is Taste of Syracuse-Central New York's biggest summer party-while June 17-18 sees the Ithaca Reggae Fest take over Stewart Park.

Start your month off by dancing on the sand at the Carolina Beach Music Festival in the town of Carolina Beach, which will pay tribute to the region's famed "beach music" scene while over in Boone, they will host their inaugural High Country Jazz Festival June 8-12 with names like Delfeayo Marsalis and New York Voices performing. Elsewhere, the Blueberry Festival returns to Burgaw June 17-18 with a "berried" roster of cool events while Nags Head will go crazy for kites on June 17 during the Rogallo Kite Festival.

It isn't summer in Fargo until Happy Harry's Ribfest happens and this year's event will take place at the Fargodome June 8-11. Expect the usual array of mouthwatering ribs from some of the best barbecue masters in the country, ice-cold bevies and music from the likes of Phil Vassar, Granger Smith and Scott Stapp of Creed. Head to Bismarck on June 16 for the 11th annual Downtowners Art & Wine Walk to admire works of art and sip sensational vino.

The town of Troy gets summer started right with their Strawberry Festival (June 4-5), which will once again feature over 100 food, arts and crafts vendors. Celebrate 60 years of the Columbus Arts Festival with the usual array of talented artists, activities, skilled musicians and food vendors June 10-12 before heading to Avon near Cleveland June 16-18 for the Duck Tape Festival. Yep, you read that right, all things Duck brand tape (the brand calls Avon home) will be put on a pedestal during this festival, which will feature great food & drink and fanciful Duck tape creations. Finish off your month with a cannon bang at the Put-in-Bay Pyrate Fest (June 24-26), which will feature lots of swashbuckling and sipping rum in the sun.

The town of Durant is the place to be June 2-4 for the Magnolia Festival, an all-American get-together full of rides, fair food, fireworks and hundreds of shopping booths. In Tulsa, June 8-12 will see the premier black film festival the Greenwood Film Festival return for an encore after its 2021 debut while in Norman, June 16-18 sees the return of the stellar Jazz in June festival.

Portland throws its biggest annual party each summer in the form of the Rose Festival, and June is when the majority of the best events take place. The event will run through June 26, with highlights including the Starlight Run (June 4), City Fair rides & amusements (through June 12), Countryfest concert (June 5), Dragon Boat Races & Grand Floral Parade (June 11) and Juneteenth celebration (June 18). Elsewhere, Astoria will celebrate the Scandinavian tradition of Midsummer June 17-19 while the town of Tigard will host its Festival of Balloons on June 24-26.

Pack your bags and head to Pittsburgh for the Three River Arts Festival (June 3-12), a ten-day fiesta filled with free music across a range of genres, artwork, and an eclectic range of artistic performances. June 11-19 sees the return of the Laurel Festival-a fun fair dedicated to the state flower-to Wellsboro and those same dates will see the Philadelphia Flower Show (the nation's longest-running horticultural event) bloom once again in Philly. Also in the City of Brotherly love, the ever-popular Chinese Lantern Festival will begin its annual illumination of Franklin Square on June 21.

Rhody revels in summers on the water and June sees the coast come alive with the comings-and-goings of sailboats and other vessels along the state's shoreline. Start your month off by taking in the Newport International Polo Series (Saturdays June through September) before enjoying the urban delights of Providence at PVDFest (June 10-12), a local arts festival that will also feature stellar A-list music from artists like the Rebirth Jazz Band, Kermit Ruffins and Hit La Rosa. Then, head back to the coast for the Black Ships Festival (a June 10-12 celebration of Japanese-American friendship), the Newport Flower Show (June 17-19) and Newport Pride (June 24-26).

The Spoleto Performing Arts Festival will run in Charleston through June 12, bringing with it everything from ballet to theater, opera, dance and music. The Carolina Country Music Festival returns to the sands of Myrtle Beach June 9-12 with a lineup that includes Luke Bryan, Keith Urban and Chris Lane while Columbia will host the South Carolina Juneteenth Freedom Fest June 18-19, a party that will feature carnival rides, food trucks and performances by artists like Nappy Roots, Dondria, Vivian Green and Rob Base.

Start your June off with a step back in time at the Fort Sisseton Historical Festival (June 3-5), which will once again re-create a historic military encampment and treat all visitors to a taste of the frontier life. Later in the month, head to the Rush No More Resort & Campground near Sturgis for three days of traditional bluegrass and acoustic tunes at the Black Hills Bluegrass Festival (June 24-16).

In Nashville, the CMA Festival (June 9-12) will once again be putting out country music vibes while the Music City Freedom Fest (June 18-19) will toast Juneteenth with live music, food trucks and games. Bonnaroo is still the big one in these parts and this epic music and arts festival returns to Manchester June 16-19 with a rockstar roster of headliners that includes Stevie Nicks, Machine Gun Kelly, Tool, Flum, The Chicks, Illenium and Gryffin. It's not only about music though as the days will be filled with all kinds of fun things to do from a "Broo'ers Festival" to waterslides, ferris wheels and excellent food stalls.

The Troubadour Festival takes over Georgetown on June 4 with great grub from over 40 of Texas' best barbecue joints and music from the likes of Josh Abbott Band, Flatland Cavalry among others while over in Kerrville, the 50th annual Folk Festival will run through June 12. Head down to the coastal town of Aransas Pass for the Shrimporee Festival (June 10-12), which will feature live music from acts like Pat Green, Ramon Ayala and Chad Cooke Band in addition to scores of fun diversions and plenty of tasty shrimp. And if you're into rodeo, check out the West of Pecos Rodeo in Pecos June 21-25, the world's oldest such event.

Salt Lake City's biggest blues bash will take place on June 10-11 as the Utah Blues Festival will once again take over town while that same weekend sees the Fork Fest (June 11) bring an eclectic roster of rock (Ritt Momney headlines) and other genres to American Fork. Additionally, the Utah Arts Festival -the state's favorite arts gathering-takes place in Library Square in Salt Lake City on June 23-26, featuring four days of live music, poetry, art and dance.

At long last, the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival is back and it's bringing with it one of its most impressive rosters yet. Curated by Michael Mwenso, shows will take place all over town and will include but certainly are not limited to performances by Joshua Redman, Lakecia Benjamin, Soul Squad and Caylen Bryant. Elsewhere in the state, Enosburg Falls brings its "moo-tastic" Vermont Dairy Festival back June 2-5 and Burlington also sees the Wine & Food Festival pop the cork on June 25.

Make your way to Norfolk June 10-12 for America's oldest and biggest free maritime festival, an event that shines a light on the seafaring heritage of the region with tallships, live music and mouthwatering food-among many other fun experiences. That same weekend (June 10-12) will see the 71st edition of the Potomac River Festival in Colonial Beach while later in the month, the Red Wing Roots Festival (June 24-26) will celebrate the great Virginia outdoors and great roots music.

Attending the Bellevue Jazz & Blues Music Series (June 1-5) is a great way to start the month, while over in Seattle, June 4 sees the start of a month's worth of Pride events at Pride in the Park, a grand kick-off that will feature great food and outdoor fun. Later in the month, head out to Gorge June 18-19 for the Beyond Wonderland Festival, an epic electronic music festival or make your way to Seattle on those same dates for Fremont Fair, a celebration of the solstice with a parade and scores of fun events.

Start your month off at the Mountain Music Festival (June 2-4), which takes place at Ace Adventure Resort. This unique event combines great music with awesome outdoor recreation opportunities for a summer kick-off event you won't forget. In Lewisburg, The Renaissance Festival (June 4-26, weekends only) will be enchanting all who attend and WV Fest celebrates arts and heritage in Charles Town on June 18.

Here, you will find a celebration of the region's timber and ranching heritage through a series of exciting wood chopping events and rodeos.
