Spirit Airlines is beginning its next chapter with new leaders at the helm.
On the heels of exiting Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the budget carrier has named airline industry veteran Dave Davis to the role of President and CEO, along with board member, effective Monday, April 21.
Davis previously spent years in president and chief financial officer roles with Midwest-based carriers Sun Country Airlines and Northwest Airlines (before its merger with Delta Air Lines in the late 2000s).
Meanwhile, Duncan Dee has been named Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Trey Urbahn was tapped to the role of Senior Commercial Advisor. Dee will oversee all aspects of Spirit's internal and external communications while Urbahn will be tasked with supporting and guiding Spirit's commercial efforts, including network, pricing and yield management in addition to onboard configurations and offerings.
"We're excited to welcome Dave as Spirit's new President and CEO. He brings with him a wealth of experience and a solid track record of accomplishments from his many years in the airline industry. Dave's background at both Northwest Airlines and, more recently, at Sun Country Airlines, positions him well to lead Spirit's continued transformation," Spirit Airlines Chairman Robert Milton said in a statement.
"Spirit is pleased to welcome these new additions to our leadership team as the company continues to advance its transformation," Milton added. "The board would also like to express its gratitude to Spirit's frontline team members, whose commitment to our guests, the company and safety has never wavered. The three new members bolster an experienced team that will together develop, convey and execute a powerful new plan that will propel Spirit forward."
"I am thrilled to join Spirit at this critical time in the company's history," added Davis. "I look forward to working with the more than 11,000 Spirit team members to deliver value for our guests, shareholders and the communities that we serve."
Davis, Dee and Urbahn join an existing team that includes John Bendoraitis, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Fred Cromer, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer; Thomas C. Canfield, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary; Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer; Linde Grindle, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer and Rocky B. Wiggins, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer.
