So, you got to the airport too
early for your flight, or your departing flight has been delayed. Now what?
The airport can be a fascinating place, as it's a
microcosm of life. It's a little city of its own that you can explore and take
it all in.
Here are a few ways to pass the time in an airport.
People Watching: Few places can rival an airport for
the diversity it attracts. Take advantage of it by quickly learning about
different cultures. If you are not obtrusive or eavesdropping, try to figure
out what others are discussing.
Catch Up on Reading: Every airport has a bookstore.
Catch up on ridiculous amounts of trashy magazines or grab the latest hot
novel.
Watch Other Planes: Whether taking off or
landing, it still boggles the mind that these massive things can get off the
ground.
Get Your Steps In: Many major airports have terminals
that are bigger than some football stadiums, so get up and walk around until
it's time for your flight.
Strike Up a Conversation: You never know who you
will meet.
Shop: Many modern airports are like shopping
malls. They have everything, far more than just the ubiquitous T-shirt store or
shop that sells refrigerator magnets. However, they have those, too.
Get a Shoe Shine or Massage: Go ahead and live a
little. You never know when you'll be near a crying baby, so take some stress
out of flying.
Indulge: Chain restaurants are still in vogue for
budget-conscious consumers, but some airports have elevated their respective
dining experiences. Now, it's not uncommon to trade that greasy cheeseburger
for a fine steak and a glass of wine.
