JetBlue Airways is reportedly now in conversation with United Airlines about a potential partnership following the blocking of the Northeast Alliance with American Airlines back in 2023.?
American Airlines filed a lawsuit against JetBlue on April 29, seeking money that it claims the airline owes American from back during the original discussions about the Northeast Alliance in 2020.?
A federal judge had halted that alliance due to antitrust laws. JetBlue was also blocked by a federal judge from merging with Spirit Airlines last year.
In February, JetBlue reported exploring other partner opportunities with other airlines.?It hopes offering greater connectivity and partnerships with other airlines will improve its profitability.
According to Reuters, the partnership isnt a direct merger but may allow travelers to earn and use frequent-flier miles via both airlines. Both airlines declined to issue a comment to Reuters.?
JetBlue is the latest airline facing financial woes after the COVID-19 pandemic. Like Spirit Airlines, which just recovered from bankruptcy, the airlines shares have fallen deeply, down 47 percent just this year, and posting a profit only in two of the past nine quarters.?
In addition to a travel slump due to Trumps trade war sparking fears of recession, JetBlue went along with many domestic airlines and withdrew its financial outlook for the year.?
