U.S.-based travel agency air ticket sales climbed to $9.3 billion in January 2025, according to the latest data from Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC).
The figure marks a 5 percent increase from January 2024 and arrives on the heels of a record year.
Last month's sales and passenger trip totals were also significantly higher than December 2024, reflecting a typical seasonal pattern, ARC says.
Total sales were up 39 percent month-over-month while total passenger trips were up 40 percent month-over-month.
Of the 26.7 million total passenger trips ARC settled in January 2025, 16.4 million came from U.S. domestic travel while the remaining 10.3 million trips were from international travel.
According to ARC, New Distribution Capability (NDC) transactions accounted for nearly one-fifth (18.4 percent) of the total transactions last month, which was a 9 percent increase from 16.9 percent in January 2024.
Finally, the average ticket price came in at $557 for January 2025, down 1 percent from December 2024 but up 2 percent from January 2024.
"Our sales data showed that the average price for airline premium seats in 2024 was the lowest it's been over the past three years. This is great news for travelers looking to upgrade their air travel experience without breaking the bank," ARC chief commercial officer Steve Solomon said in a statement.
"With business and leisure travel demand remaining high in January, travel agencies have plenty to be optimistic about to start 2025."
