Legislators in Florida are proposing a bill that would connect one of the Sunshine States largest population centers with its biggest entertainment area.
Sen. Jay Collins?and Rep. Karen Gonzalez Pittman, both Tampa Republicans, want an extension of the Brightline railroad service to run from Tampa to Orlando, according to Fox
Orlando.
The proposed extension would be built near the heavily populated Interstate 4 corridor.
SB?1226 was filed by Senate Transportation Chair Nick DiCeglie, R-Indian Rocks Beach. Indian Rocks Beach is a suburb of Tampa.
Brightline?has indicated a willingness to extend the service between Tampa and Orlando, just four months after extending service from the South Florida area near Miami to Orlando.?
A budget of $50 million has been proposed for the Tampa to Orlando line.
The new Brightline?extension would alleviate the congestion of I-4 and make it easier for travelers to move between the beaches of the Tampa area and the major tourist attractions in Orlando.?
The bill and the proposed budget will be considered when the legislature returns on January 9.
