Carnival Cruise Line is commending the efforts of its Carnival Vista cruise ship team, which rescued six men who were stranded in the ocean near the Dominican Republic early Wednesday morning after their small cargo vessel capsized overnight.
A search and rescue operation for six additional missing crew members is being led by Coast Guard authorities.
After an onboard monitoring system received an emergency alert, Captain Paolo Severini directed the ship's officers to immediately alter course in coordination with Carnivals Fleet Operations Center in Miami.
Officers eventually spotted six men on a life raft and stopped to bring them on board.

The Carnival team informed Coast Guard officials in the Dominican Republic about the additional missing crew members, spurring a search for the remaining crew members.
Authorities advised Carnival Vista to return to its route.
Carnival Vista will visit Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic as scheduled on Wednesday. The Port Canaveral, Florida-based ship is currently sailing a six-day itinerary that departed Sunday.
Over the summer, Carnival's Mardi Gras rescued a couple aboard a sailboat in distress near The Bahamas. Prior to that, Carnival Spirit rescued two dozen people who were stranded at sea in a small boat in the Caribbean.?
