Quintana Roo has seen the highest percentage of cruise ship passengers in Mexico in 2019.
Cozumel and Mahahual are the two main ports for the Mexican state, with Cozumel topping the list at 1.4 million cruise passengers this year.
In the first quarter alone, 2.17 million cruise passengers landed in Mexico with 1.9 million landing in Quintana Roo. That's 69 percent of Mexico's cruise travel industry.
The first few months of 2019 has brought with it a 10.3 percent increase in cruise ship passenger arrivals in Quinta Roo.
According to the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT), about 100 cruise ships land at the Cozumel or Mahahual ports each month carrying approximately 3,000 passengers.
The growth in cruise ship numbers reflects a trend over the last few years. Seven out of 10 cruise passengers to Mexico went through Quinta Roo in 2018. Cozumel itself had a 4.6 percent growth from 2017 to 2018 when it bolstered 4.2 million cruise ship visitors.
