Royal Caribbean Internationals newest ship, Utopia of the Seas, achieved a key construction milestone this week as it headed out into the open ocean for sea trials.
The 5,668-passenger Oasis Class vessel is slated to debut in July in Port Canaveral.
Starting today, Utopia of the Seas will spend five days undergoing a wide array of tests before it hosts its first guests 10 weeks from now.?
More than 900 experts and specialists in naval architecture, engineering, navigation and design are onboard the ship for sea trials, which are designed to push the ship to its limits and make sure its ready for smooth sailing, according to Royal Caribbean International. During sea trials, the vessel will cover more than 1,000 miles.
Once complete, the vessel will head to the the Chantiers de lAtlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, for finishing touches
When the vessel debuts this summer, it will offer 3-night and 4-night getaways to the Caribbean. Every sailing will include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbeans private island destination in the Bahamas.
