On Aug. 12, 2026, parts of northeast Greenland, western Europe and northern Africa will be plunged into darkness during a total solar eclipse.
Albatros Expeditions will give travelers a front-row seat to this rare natural phenomenon with its new Greenland Solar Eclipse 2026 itinerary. The expedition cruise line will position its 189-guest ship Ocean Albatros near the center of the eclipse off the remote Blosseville Coast of East Greenland.
Sheltered from the ocean, our calm landing beach will provide unobstructed views toward the western sky, according to Albatros Expeditions. Totality will last for 2 minutes and 17 seconds.
The total solar eclipse is just one highlight of the cruise. The vessel will depart from Reykjavk, Iceland, and make stops along the east coast of Greenland. Travelers will also cruise through the Prins Christiansund strait, explore the fjords of southern Greenland and visit the capital city of Nuuk. The 12-night sailing finishes in Kangerlussuaq.
Experts will be on board to talk about astronomy, zoology, geology, Inuit culture and other topics.
In the meantime, astronomy aficionados have the April 2024 solar eclipse to look forward to. Several cruise lines are also offering itineraries designed to help travelers make the most of that eclipse, including Holland America Line and Princess Cruises.
