Silversea is sharing more details about its new hotel in Puerto Williams, Chileincluding its name, the Cormorant at 55 South.
The 150-room lodging, which will be the southernmost hotel on Earth, will serve as a new home base for travelers heading to Antarctica. Its slated to open during the upcoming 2025-26 Antarctica season.
The Cormorant at 55 South is a tribute to the rich culture, breathtaking natural beauty and storied history of Puerto Williams, immersing guests in their destination before embarking on their journey to Antarctica, says Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea.?
The name is a nod to the hotels latitude, 55 degrees south. It also pays homage to the cormorant, an aquatic bird thats significant to the indigenous Yahgan peoples of South America. To the Yahgan, the cormorantcalled the Lakutaia in their languagerepresents the seafarer.?

The hotels rooms will offer views of the surrounding forest and the waters of the Beagle Channel. Interior designers are incorporating expansive windows, warm wood tones, earth elements and handcrafted items created by regional artisans.
Every aspect of The Cormorant is thoughtfully designed with our guests in mind, ensuring a comfortable and uniquely Silversea experience, says Hernandez. Each room offers panoramic views of Patagonia, and the hotel creates a deep connection to the local community, providing specially designed experiences that will allow our guests to begin their expeditions sooner than ever, all in uncompromised comfort.
Guests will be able to enjoy the hotel before and after Silverseas Antarctica expeditions, including the six-day Antarctica Fly Cruise itinerary, which allows guests to fly over the Drake Passage.
Meanwhile, the brand is also launching a new content series called Stores by Silversea. The first two episodes are out now: Embrace the Unknown and A Legacy in the Making: Part 1.
