Cancun received several new Blue Flag certifications this year, bringing its total to 47, the highest amount in Mexico.?
The new certifications included Playa Delfines, the Fiesta Americana Condesa, Live Aqua, Flamingo, Iberostar hotels and the Cancn Sailing boat company. The state of Quintana Roo also has the most Blue Flag-certified boats in the world, at 36.?
Blue Flag is a voluntary award operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education. It is awarded to beaches, marinas and boats who achieve high levels of sustainability, education, safety and accessibility. There are over 5,100 Blue Flag certified places across the globe. Mexico holds the most Blue Flag destinations in North America and ranks tenth globally.?
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa said, I am very pleased to know that today we not only reflect the commitment of those who had already been awarded, of those who had already achieved that flag, but that more are joining and those who reaffirm their commitment.

Blue Flag recently announced it became part of a new coalition of sustainable certification groups working to help transition the travel industry to a more sustainable future. Partners include its parent group, FEE and GreenKey International.?
