Brazil is in a position to set record arrival numbers in 2024.
The South American nation hosted 5,908,341 international visitors in 2023, surpassing
pre-pandemic figures.
Brazil’s 2023 arrivals surged 62.7 percent over the 3.6
million travelers it welcomed in 2022 yet remain percentage points behind the record
6.3 million visitors who traveled to Brazil in 2019. The 2023 arrival numbers reached
93 percent of pre-pandemic totals.
Brazil is now poised to surpass its 2023 tourism success said Celso Sabino,
minister of tourism, in a January 19 statement. “We are on the brink of
surpassing our 2019 international tourist figures,” Sabino said.
The Ministry’s destination development and promotion initiatives
“are aimed at not only increasing visitor numbers but also enhancing the
economic impact of tourism in Brazil,” he added.
Embratur officials describe the U.S. as a key market for Brazil's tourism. “The United States [is]
leading as the primary long-haul source of tourists to Brazil, contributing a
record number of 668,000 (11 percent) of visitors in 2023,” officials said.
Brazil hosted 483,000 Americans between January and
September of last year, behind only Argentina’s 1.5 million travelers.
"Our efficient strategy in boosting air connectivity
by 40 percent and collaborating with both Brazilian and foreign companies has played
a crucial role in placing Brazil on the global tourism map," said Marcelo
Freixo, Embratur’s president.
Embratur identified S?o Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande
do Sul, Paraná, and Santa Catarina as top Brazilian destinations, with most
visitors arriving by air.
