Americans are gearing up to get away for the unofficial start of summer this Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-27).
According to new data from Priceline, travelers are already showing plenty of interest in the busy late-May travel period, with searches for flights and hotels on the rise.
While many have their sights set on popular warm-weather destinations, some places travelers are eager to visit this Memorial Day may surprise you.
Trending Destinations for Memorial Day Weekend?
Domestically, Priceline has reported an increase of more than 20 percent in hotel searches for cities such as?Washington D.C., Charlotte, Charleston and Honolulu.
Texas is also proving to be quite popular this coming Memorial Day. Hotel searches for Dallas have soared by 98 percent while Houston has seen a significant 25 percent increase compared to Memorial Day 2023.
Meanwhile, Montreal is emerging as a trending international destination, with searches having gone up 112 percent.
When it comes to the trendiest domestic destinations based on flight searches, Salt Lake City, Honolulu, San Diego, Tampa and Dallas are buzzing this spring. Other favorites include Detroit, Boston, Charleston, St. Louis and Houston. According to Priceline, the average cost of roundtrip flights to those cities ranges from $312 (Detroit) to $440 (San Diego).

Internationally, trendy destinations include Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and Canun, Mexico; Toronto and Montreal, Canada and Nassau, Bahamas. The latter is the cheapest option with an average roundtrip airfare cost of $335 compared to $872 for Los Cabos.
Looking at hotel searches, Priceline reveals the trendiest U.S. destinations for Memorial Day 2024 to be Washington, D.C., Houston, Honolulu, Seattle, Boston, Chicago, San Juan, Orlando, New Orleans and Atlanta. Travelers can find hotel rates as low as $140 per night on average in places like Houston but will have to splurge in Honolulu, where the average nightly rate is closer to $300.
In terms of trending international destinations, hotel searches reveal travelers aren't only interested in tropical destinations, with cities like Tokyo, Vancouver and Paris emerging as popular locales. Other coveted places to spend Memorial Day Weekend include Cabo San Lucas, Tulum, Cancun and Los Cabos, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Nassau, Bahamas and Niagara Falls.
