The beaches of Puerto Escondido and the surrounding areas are home to professionals from North America and Europe who enjoy gigantic waves that, for the most part, can only be challenged by expert surfers and pros.
The favorite places for surfing in Puerto Escondido are Zicatela, Carrizalillo, La Barra, and Punta Colorada. Other beaches in the area include Mazunte, Zipolite, La Punta, and Puerto Angelito,?to name a few.
It should be noted that Playa Zicatela has world-class waves with one of the most dangerous beach breaks in the world. The highest wave season is from May to September, with waves rising from seven to twenty feet.
