If you are wondering what foods should be on the top of your list when traveling to New Delhi, you shouldn't worry, because you will be spoiled for choice - there are even some dishes that date back centuries.
The true beauty - and taste - of New Delhi's food lies in its rich history and diversity - there's something for everyone, and it's all delicious," writes Pavni Mittal for the Points Guy, where you'll find suggestions about where to start with a culinary exploration in the capital.
Here's a taste to get you started.
Try some different varieties of biryani.
"Richer and spicier than its cousin, the pulao or pilaf, biryani varieties extend to vegetarian and even betel leaf flavored for the more discerning palate. Some of New Delhi's best are called Moradabai (named for a town in Northern India), Calcutta (this one has potatoes and is less spicy) and Pakistani biryani," says Mittal.

Kebabs are served piping hot and paired with chutney and mint.
"Originally from the Middle East, this grilled meat - we even have vegetarian options - is a staple often enjoyed with Old Monk dark rum," says Mittal.
And then there's a true classic: butter chicken.
"This yogurt-and-spice marinated chicken dressed in thick, creamy, tomato gravy is often eaten with oven-baked naan bread. Nearly every North Indian restaurant in New Delhi serves a decent version of this Punjabi dish, but the original one can be found at Moti Mahal Restaurant in Daryaganj," Mittal recommends.
