When you think of romantic escapes Disney World isn't usually the first place that comes to mind. Granted, it's a theme park and the dream destination for children around the world, but rest assured that romantic locations and moments are in ample supply. You just need to know where to look!
From elegant dining options to world-class hotels, Walt Disney World in Orlando is the complete package for a couple of lovebirds. Whether you're local to Florida and just looking for a day away from the kids, planning a weekend getaway or escaping for a week-long lovers' holiday, Disney has got you covered.
The World Showcase at Epcot
I think many would agree that Epcot is one of the more adult-friendly parks at Disney World. They sell alcoholic beverages and there aren't as many kiddie rides as some of the other parks. If you can only choose one park for a romantic date, this is your spot.
Picture strolling hand-in-hand with your sweetheart through exotic cities, sipping some red wine as the sun sets. Ok, it's not quite that picturesque, as there are still children, theme park rides and characters signing autographs. However, eating and drinking your way through the World Showcase at Epcot is a perfect activity for a couple on a date.
If you want to indulge in international cuisine in an elegant setting, try San Angel Inn Restaurante in Mexico. This restaurant is designed to look like you're dining at the base of the Mayan ruins and the lights are permanently dimmed. It's romance at its finest, sipping a margarita while gazing into the eyes of your real-life prince or princess.
Enchanting Fireworks
There's just something about the night sky lit up with pyrotechnics set to music that makes your heart swell. Each park has its own version of a jaw-dropping fireworks display and each sets the stage for a romantic moment. Spread out a blanket, grab some dessert (or wine if you're at Epcot) and snuggle up close to enjoy the show.
If you want to upgrade your fireworks viewing experience, spring for the Dessert Party at any of the parks. You get to view the fireworks from a semi-private spot with a buffet of sweets and adult beverages to enjoy.
Stay in a Magical Resort
After a long day in the sun at Disney, it's time to head back to the hotel and relax. All of the Disney Resorts are great options for park guests with extended park hours, free transportation, and that same enchanting Disney World feeling. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts are especially wonderful for couples looking to relax and unwind after a long day in the sun.
Grab your sweetheart and enjoy a couple's massage at Mandara Spa, a Balinese-style spa located in the Dolphin Resort. Afterward, head outside and rent a private poolside cabana where you can sip on tropical drinks, snack on fresh fruit and enjoy each others' company.
Nightlife at Disney's Boardwalk
Not only do the Swan and Dolphin Hotels have excellent dining options within the hotel, but they are also walking distance from great nightlife at shopping at Disney's BoardWalk. Take your honey to the waterfront and sing along with the dueling pianos at Jellyrolls, dance the night away at Atlantic Dance Hall or sip a magical cocktail at AbracadaBar.
For a more low-key evening, you can simply stroll the BoardWalk hand-in-hand. Duck in and out of sweet shops and try your hand at midway games in this charming setting. If you time it right, you might even be able to catch Epcot's IllumiNations fireworks show.
Extra Magic Hours
If you're staying at Disney Resorts and Hotels, including the Swan and Dolphin Hotels, you have the option to enjoy extra hours in the theme parks. This is a great way to get the most out of your Disney trip, and perfect for pairs looking for a quieter more intimate experience. Wander the lamplit paths in any of the parks after dark with the benefit of short or no wait times for many of the rides.
Snuggle close on your favorite rides that are open after dark, such as Frozen Ever After in Epcot or Peter Pan's Flight in Magic Kingdom. Grab an ice cream cone and take in the parades or people watch. If you are early risers, make the morning Extra Magic Hours a coffee date to casually hop on and off your favorite attractions.
No matter the length of your stay at Disney you truly can find enjoyable activities for adults to rekindle the romance. As with everything, your time in the Most Magical Place on Earth is what you make of it. Maybe the childlike wonder that Walt Disney World brings is just what your next date night or getaway needs.
