Screams (of laughter) are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.
Disney Legend Billy Crystal, the voice of Mike Wazowski, joined Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro on stage during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event over the weekend to share the news that a monstrous new land inspired by Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” will be built at Hollywood Studios.
Bringing Monstropolis to Life
Humans are invited to explore Monstropolis — they just need to pack plenty of laughter, the secret ingredient that keeps the lights on in the monster city.

Guests will be able to stroll the streets and rub shoulders with monsters like James P. Sullivan (aka Sulley). Streetscape concept art shows fun details like monster mailboxes, towering monster-fied ice cream cones, and monster merch, HarryHausen’s — Monstropolis’ famed sushi restaurant, and of course the iconic factory towering in the background.
Another piece of concept art also shows Mike and Sulley side by side, greeting guests in front of the factory, and a tube slide appears off to the side, suggesting a possible kids’ play area.

Monsters, Inc. Coaster Plans Revealed
Inside the factory, humans will get to zip through the door warehouse just like Mike and Sulley on the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park.
“Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? D’Amaro asked the crowd. “We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Work on the project is scheduled to begin next year. Disney has yet to confirm the planned location for Monstropolis within Hollywood Studios.
On Sunday, following the announcement, Disney revealed a concept model of the new coaster in the Imagineering: Behind the Dreams pavilion at D23, giving us a closer look at what the track layout could look like.
