Visiting a theme park's roller coasters is already a major adrenaline rush, but doing so for National Roller Coaster Day on August 16 makes it even more enjoyable.
To celebrate the high-speed holiday, travelers should take their families and friends to the fast-paced action of the best roller coasters in the world.
In the United States, for example, we take roller coasters very seriously.

Cedar Point: Sandusky, Ohio
Ohio's Cedar Point has 16 of the top coasters, the second-most in the world behind only Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Cedar Point has a perfect mixture of different roller coaster types, including junior coasters, steel coasters and wooden coasters. Some of the most popular attractions include the Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200 and Millennium Force.
Separating the Sandusky theme park from the rest are the many different types of steel coasters for adults, including a wing (GateKeeper), a racing Hybrid (Gemini), a launched (Maverick) and a floorless coaster (Rougarou).
Knoebels Amusement Resort: Elysburg, Pennsylvania
While the Knoebels Amusement Resort doesn't have the high number of roller coasters that many other parks do, the Pennsylvania theme park values quality over quantity.
For steel coaster fans, Knoebels boasts three exciting attractions, including the new Impulse coaster opened in 2015; the family-friendly Kozmo's Kurves designed for riders of all ages; and the Black Diamond indoor coaster.
The theme park has a plethora of wooden coasters as well, including the massive Twister, the legendary Phoenix (the park's oldest operating coaster) and the unique Flying Turns, which is a mostly-trackless bobsled roller coaster.
Six Flags Magic Mountain: Valencia, California
Six Flags Magic Mountain in California boasts the most coasters in the world with an astounding 19.
While the theme park has four roller coasters specifically designed for children and families, the focus of the park is on some of the tallest, fastest and longest coasters in the world, including themed rides like Green Lantern: First Flight, The Riddler's Revenge, Superman: Escape from Krypton, and Batman: The Ride.
For the truly daring, Six Flags Magic Mountain boasts the impressive Full Throttle launch coaster, 255-feet drop of the Goliath, floorless Scream! coaster, the world's longest racing coaster (Twisted Colossus) and the Viper, which reaches 70 miles per hour.

Carowinds: Charlotte, North Carolina
Dubbed the "Thrill Capital of the Southeast," the Carowinds theme park on the border between North and South Carolina boasts 13 amazing roller coasters to visit.
For NASCAR fans, the Intimidator is a steel hypercoaster inspired by Dale Earnhardt. It is 232 feet tall and travels up to 75 miles per hour. The park is also home to the tallest gigacoaster and fastest non-launched roller coaster in the world (Fury 325), which reaches speeds of up to 95 miles per hour.
In addition, the theme park also boasts other top coasters, including the Nighthawk, Afterburn, Carolina Cyclone, Carolina Goldrusher, Vortex and several others built for children, families and ultimate thrill seekers.
