If Europe is on your radar for summer 2025, the good news is you will have plenty of flight options.
There will be about 5,000 more seats available per day this summer between the United States and the European continent, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium, which held a media briefing today. That's about a 3 percent increase over last summer.?
Looked at another way, during summer 2024 carriers offered a total of about 4.9 million seats to Europe from the United States, but this summer the total seat count has increased to 5.1 million, according to Cirium.
Delta Air Lines will be leader among carriers when it comes to expanding seats to Europe. The Atlanta-based airline has added 40,000 more seats to Europe for the coming summer. American Airlines follows close behind with 30,000 additional seats available this summer compared to summer 2024.
Turkish Airlines rounds out the top three carriers with its addition of 25,000 more seats to Europe from the U.S. this summer.
"Two summers ago, the story was that United Airlines was very, very bullish on Europe. They [had] a premium cabin, they were changing their seat configuration to get more high value customers," Cirum's Mike Arnot told reporters.?
United continued increasing its seat capacity between the U.S. and Europe even more last summer, added Arnot. But for summer 2025, the story will be Delta Air Lines.
"Delta came on board saying 'We need to take some of that premium passenger traffic as well,' " Arnot explained. "This summer I see Delta increasing even more."
American is also entering the fray this summer, working to add significantly more capacity, as well, according to Cirium data.
Destination Seat Supply for Summer 2025
Cirium also shared insights during today's media briefing surrounding destinations that are likely to be especially popular this summer.
Italy, the eternal favorite, will continue to lead the pack. According to Cirium data, carriers have significantly expanded seats to the country for the coming summer.
"Italy has had a lot of growth in seats Arnot said. Italy is huge. Italy is just a super popular market.
Turkey ranks second for summer 2025 with growth in seats, followed by Spain. It's also worth noting that the colder climate destination, Finland, will have 50 percent more airline seats available this summer among carriers flying from the United States.
Croatia, another incredibly popular destination, will have 70 percent more seats available in summer 2025 compared to 2024.
At the same time, carriers are reducing seats this summer to a variety of destinations, among them the United Kingdom, Portugal, Norway, Austria and Poland.
Arnot attributed this to airlines likely realizing they had too much supply last year.
