Seattle stands out for many reasons, including its world-class coffee offerings.
Sure, the Emerald City has given us Starbucks and Seattle's Best, but nowadays the city's coffee scene is much more robust and diverse. The competition has only helped to propel the quality.
Stellar independent coffee shops have been popping up all over Seattle in recent years, and therefore it isn't hard to get your hands on an excellent cup of coffee.

Seattle Coffee Works
Seattle Coffee Works has been serving up delicious local joe downtown for the past 11 years and has been roasting its own since 2008.
Sample the award-winning Seattle Space blend at the Espresso Bar or check out how a delicious cup comes to be at the Slow Bar. Seattle Coffee Works describes the latter as "part ritual, part playground and part science lab."
Milstead & Co.
This coffee shop is for coffee drinkers who appreciate a quality cup but aren't in a hurry. After all, the baristas brew each individually at Milstead & Co.
"Good service can make a good product great," owner Andrew Milstead told Seattle Refined in 2014. "But bad service can make a good product bad. People come here for not only the coffee but the service too."
Slate Coffee Roasters
Slate Coffee Roasters boasts four locations throughout Seattle. Head over to the Ballard spot on 6th Ave NW to find the original coffee bar.
In addition to hand-brewed coffee and espresso, Slate offers tea and pastries to complement whatever brew you choose. Tasting flights are also available if you're not sure what you want.
Espresso Vivace
Beloved by Chef Emeril Lagasse, Seattle's Espresso Vivace roasts in the Northern Italian style: Slowly in search of a sweet caramel flavor.
According to the Seattle Times, some credit Espresso Vivace's co-proprietor David Schomer for making the city's coffee scene what it is today. "David turned it into more than just a profession. He turned it into a science and an art," Monorail Espresso founder Chuck Beek told the Times in 2015.
Let's just say true espresso lovers will want to stop by.

Elm Coffee Roasters
All of Elm Coffee Roasters' creations are roasted at its Pioneer Square cafe, which means flavor and freshness is plentiful at this Seattle spot.
The inside atmosphere is also extremely pleasant thanks to floor-to-ceiling front windows that include a ton of natural light. Display windows also allow customers to watch the baristas at work.
