Big Sur, California, is getting back on track after storms and mudslides decimated roadways, isolating the popular travel destination from visitors.
Now, the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge has reopened and travelers are once again flooding into the city.
While the road closures presented travelers to the area with many unique opportunities for sightseeing, many of the iconic resorts in the region took the downtime to upgrade and renovate properties, Ventana Big Sur among them.
The resort, perched cliffside and overlooking the craggy coastline along the storied Pacific Coast Highway, underwent a multimillion-dollar upgrade and renovation, enhancing current public spaces, adding new amenities and refreshing all 59 guestrooms.
"We are thrilled to welcome guests to the re-imagined Ventana Big Sur," said Kristina Jetton, general manager of the resort. "The property-wide transformation, from The Sur House terrace and its stunning ocean views to our completely redesigned guestrooms and suites, all celebrate the spirit and energy of Big Sur-and we hope travelers will be inspired to explore more than ever before."
There is a new elevated oceanview terrace, outdoor bar at the Sur House restaurant, a renovated Social House lobby, new outdoor areas at the Spa Alila, a new Alila Experience program with Discover Experiences and more.
One of the most exciting new features at the resort is its new Redwood Canyon Glampsites.
The new program offers a luxury twist to traditional camping in Ventana's redwood forest. Fifteen new safari-style canvas tents occupy Ventana's 20-acre canyon and feature rustic decor, custom-designed clamping mattresses, luxury linens and the comforts of home.
Glampers have access to all of the amenities at the resort, as well as daily housekeeping, morning coffee and tea, handheld lanterns, walking sticks, bath baskets, s'mores kit and more.
The Bath House has teak-enclosed showers, heated floors, granite vanities and restroom facilities as well as full hotel amenities.
Guests heading to the area can enjoy the Explore the Big Sur Wilderness travel package, which starts at $775 per night and includes hiking with an expert local guide and the opportunity to be among the first to experience the re-imagined resort.
Regular room rates at Ventana Big Sur start at $675 per night and Glampsites start at $325.
