Mexico's military is guaranteeing the safety of travelers to Cancun.?
The commander of the Cancun military garrison, Luis Valentn Iglesias Solrzano, said in a statement to ensure visitors and residents alike that they can feel safe.
"I believe that without a doubt the results are occurring from the first minute that these media are in operation and it will be more noticeable in a decisive way in the coming days..." he said.
Mexico has invested in securing the region with new equipment and tools to keep residents and visitors protected.
The Cancun Sun points out that, in Mexico, the military plays a more active role in protecting national security within the country itself, taking on patrol and search duties and freeing up law enforcement to focus on community policing.?
Cancun has seen a rise in crime rates during the past three to four years, as are many nations around the world. The country is working to tamp down incidents after many high-profile events have made headlines in recent months.?
