Police in Bermuda announced on Tuesday that four United
States citizens were arrested on a Carnival Cruise Line ship after they were discovered
with a “significant quantity of illegal drugs.”
According to The
New York Post, Bermuda acting Detective Superintendent Derricka Burns said
that the four American passengers were detained by security officers aboard a
Carnival cruise ship due to drugs.
When police officers arrested the cruise passengers upon
their arrival on the island, they allegedly discovered cannabis, vape pens, THC
gummies, and carfentanil, a drug that officials said was around “100 times more
potent than fentanyl and is used to tranquilize elephants.”
“This seizure may have prevented a potential tragedy,” Detective Superintendent Burns said.
While police didn’t provide any additional details, a
Carnival spokesperson shared a comment about the incident.
“We follow a zero-tolerance drug policy,” the cruise line
said in a statement. “We also advise our guests that they can be personally
subject to local law enforcement actions.”
