With the long July 4th weekend upon us, Wednesday, June 28, is not the way to start a vacation.
According to CNN, more than 9,000 U.S.?flights have been delayed or canceled already this morning since 4:00 AM. And for a variety of reasons.
According to NBC News and the Today Show, one of the main culprits is the heat. There is an oppressive heat wave stretching from Kansas City to the South and to the southeast in Florida. Temperatures are already in the triple digits in some places and have reached as high as 120 in spots like Houston.
The unprecedented heat has caused numerous tornadoes as well.
Powerful storms are pounding the East Coast and are expected to last through the weekend. Making matters worse, according to NBC and The Weather Channel, even when precipitation holds off, smoke from the Canadian wildfires?continues to permeate the Midwest and the East.
In New York City alone, which has three of the biggest airports in the country, there are departure delays of one hour to one hour and fourteen minutes. And arrival delays of up to 15 minutes.
