G Adventures is launching its first three trips to Pakistan this year, offering two new Active travel style trips to the emerging destination and one for travelers aged 18-39.?
The trips offer a special hiking experience along the Thallay La trail, and will be some of the first guided tours available in the region.?
Many of the surrounding communities have never had access to the tourism industry, so G Adventures tours offer a source of important supplemental income for villagers. Travelers will enjoy visiting a region with plentiful local experiences with little to no other tourists.
While tourism to Pakistan is increasing, we saw that many locations and communities are still being overlooked, said Yves Marceau, vice president of product at G Adventures. When launching in a new destination, we always have communities at the heart of our product development, and wanted to look at ways we could bring tourism income to the local people of Pakistan, offering cultural and social interactions with locals in a way that is sustainable and beneficial to these communities.
This particular region of Pakistan is close to the border with Laddak in India and is quite isolated, seeing very few foreign tourists aside from K2 climbers, Marceau continued. The season is short here, and the G Adventures trips are designed to have the maximum impact on the local communities and economy over these months.
The Pakistan: Lahore & Hiking the Karakoram Mountains is an 11-day trip from Islamabad to Lahore on the Thallay La trail. The trekking trip visits remote mountain villages and plenty of time to reflect in nature, with glaciers, farms and beautiful rivers. Travelers will stay in the historic Shigar fort and meet local artists in Islamabads truck art workshops. The trips first departure is in July 2025 and costs $2,879 per person.?
The shorter 9-day Pakistan: Hike the Karakoram Mountains skips Lahore and focuses on Islamabad and the Thallay La trail. Travelers will enjoy hiking amongst yaks and goats, climbing the summit of the Thallay La Mountain at sunrise and spending a night at the Shigar Fort. The trips first departure is also in July and begins at $2,499 per person.?
Lastly, G Adventures is offering a special trip for young adults aged 18 to 39: the 13-day Pakistan: Karakoram Highway, Local Eats & Village Life itinerary. The trip also travels from Lahore to Islamabad, offering gentle mountain hikes, hosted dinners with families, a visit to the women-owned Korgah Carpet Center and more. This trip is available from June 2025 and starts at $1,499 per person.?
