Croatia has been making wine for more than 2 millennia and, if you haven't had the chance to experience it, now may be the time.
A new adventure travel company, Wind & Wine Croatia, combines luxury yacht cruising in the Dalmatian Islands with a culinary program that is focused on the region's vintages.
"Wine in Croatia has a celebrated history of more than 2,500 years and offers more than 130 indigenous grape varieties," said Lizann Grupalo, co-founder of Wind & Wine Croatia.
"The vineyards are planted in some of the most stunning regions of the country. With each passing year, Croatian wines garner more accolades and awards, yet they remain relatively undiscovered globally. We hope to change that with our wind and wine tour," added Grupalo.
The company takes guests on week-long sailing trips and organizes custom, curated winery experiences as well as the exploration of six historic islands and towns.
Wind & Wine Croatia is co-founded by Grupalo, a seasoned wine professional and life-long sailor and certified yacht master Ivan "Pale" Paskvan. Each has more than 20 years of experience in their respective fields and formed the company to share their passion for wine and sailing.
Wind & Wine Croatia is currently accepting bookings for trips in June, July and August of 2018. Itineraries include a one-way sailing from the city of Trogir/Split to Dubrovnik, stopping in Brac, Hvar, Vis, Scedro, the Peljesac Peninsula and Korcula.
During the day guests will have the chance to hike, explore, swim and snorkel. Afternoons and evenings give guests the chance to visit local wineries, enjoy olive oil tastings and sample the local cuisine.
Guests can choose between a modern, state-of-the-art sailing yacht or catamaran experience.
Onboard each yacht is a skipper and a host as well as accommodations for up to six guests. The group sails in a four-boat flotilla, giving travelers the space they need to explore on their own or get to know the group.
Each yacht offers modern amenities including double bed cabins with en-suite bathrooms.
Priority is given to full boat bookings. Customized solutions are also available upon request. Rates start at $3,900 per person.
