Allianz Global Assistance has upgraded its TravelSmart app, improving the user experience and providing travelers with a slew of enhanced, easily-accessible features.
The simplified mobile app from the travel insurance and assistance provider now lets users view their travel insurance details and flight status or respond to an emergency from the app's home screen in a matter of seconds.
Travelers can store their travel insurance policies in the app and conveniently access them from their device. Users can also check the status of existing claims and initiate a new claim through the app by uploading documents and selecting their preferred payment method.
The latest upgrade also means that Allianz customers can add their upcoming flight to the My Trips feature, allowing them to view on-time status and gate information for flights departing within 72 hours in real time.
The enhanced tool even utilizes geolocation to point travelers in the direction of nearby hospitals, doctor's offices, pharmacies, police stations and U.S. Embassies via the assistance button on the app's home screen. Allianz will flag medical facilities that have been vetted and recommended. Users can also access emergency numbers for more than 200 countries and contact Allianz's medical assistance and customer service teams in a few taps from the home screen.
A thoughtful medication dictionary allows travelers to store a photo of their prescription label so they can find international names for more than 750 common drugs and fill prescriptions away from home.

Meanwhile, a first aid terms translator is available for more than 60 illnesses and injuries. The feature translates the terms into 18 common languages so travelers can communicate emergencies effectively abroad.
"We've completely redesigned our award-winning app with new features that enable everyone to travel confidently and quickly and easily get access to the information and services they may need," said Joe Mason, Chief Marketing Officer, Americas at Allianz Partners USA, in a statement.
The app is free to download and is available for iPhone and Android devices.
