Jordan is one of the most fascinating countries on earth, and while it might not be high on many people's travel 'to do' lists, well, it should be.

Here are just five (of many) places you're missing by not going to Jordan.
1) PETRA: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of Petra will take your breath away. Literally. The traditional entrance to Petra is through what is known as The Siq, a narrow pathway flanked on both sides by massive cliffs. In fact, the entire city was carved out of (and into) the red-faced mountains by the Nabataeans more than 2,000 years ago. It became a critical passageway on the spice route between the Middle East and China. What the Nabataeans were able to do by cutting away the rock - creating an elaborate Treasury building, a 3,000-seat amphitheater, tombs and more. It is magnificent.
2) THE DEAD SEA: Wedged between Jordan and Israel, the Dead Sea almost seems to be a mythical place. But it is oh-so-real. This is one of the most hypersaline bodies of water on earth - with a salt content even higher than the oceans, which means don't go looking for fish. They can't survive, hence the name "The Dead Sea." But its mud is said to have minerals that rejuvenate the skin and body.

3) WADI RUM: If Petra was your idea of how ancient Jordan looked, well, so is Wadi Rum. The desert mixed with the sky-high monoliths is an unbelievably impressive site. In fact, if you're of a certain era or just a movie fan in general, you've seen it before - in the epic 1962 film 'Lawrence of Arabia.' Bedouins still roam here and, in fact, guests can stay at Bedouin camps for modest fees.
4) AMMAN: One of the most interesting cities in the world. It is sleek and modern, with 4 million residents, a bustling metropolis like a New York or London. Yet it is surrounded by its glorious past and, in fact, is one of the few cities in the world that have been continually inhabited. That includes the ancient ruins of The Citadel, the Temple of Hercules and a Roman theater.
5) AQABA: Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba make up what is known as the golden triangle of tourism in Jordan. This is the only coastal town in Jordan, situated at its southeast tip. This is where Jordanians go to vacation and stay in some of the best resorts in the Middle East.
