Dear Tammy: I'm working on creating my new travel website and trying to find the right words to let people know just how important travel agents are to successful traveling. I also want to add the importance of travel insurance without making it sound like I'm just trying to get them to spend more money. Advice?
Tammy: Firstly, good for you for creating a website that lets everyone know who you are as a travel agent and what you're all about. There are lots of agents doing business nowadays and it's important you do everything in your power to make yourself stand out from the rest. You need to find your voice and by your creating your own travel agent website, you're definitely on the right path.
When it comes to finding the right words, try not to think too hard and instead write from the heart. Once you have everything written down, then you can start editing it so that it sounds professional.
Since you want to put a focus on how important the role of a travel agent is for a successful travel experience (and they are!), put this information in a simple format on your home page. List all of the benefits that come with using you as a travel agent, with an emphasis on the fact that you can offer them a wealth of essential information that will make their travels trouble-free.
Regarding the importance of travel insurance, just be upfront on the many benefits of travel insurance. Add content on why insurance is necessary vs. just being seen as another travel expense. Let them know what could happen if they don't purchase insurance.
Even though most travelers want to save money where they can, the risks are just too great, making it so that every traveler needs to buy insurance when traveling. Providing them with specific examples can also be really helpful.
For example, Wow Airlines recently filed for bankruptcy and went out of business and a lot of people ended up getting stranded, and they're not giving refunds! At least not for a really long time. But those who bought the right kind of travel insurance are protected from travel businesses that file for bankruptcy.
Also, not all travelers who own their own business know that an E&O policy is a type of liability insurance that covers both them and their business.
Be sure to list these examples and information like this on your website!
