Hawaii continues to make headlines as it works out a potential tourism fee.
Hawaiian Governor Josh Green originally pitched a $50 fee for tourists to enter the state. The government is working out the price, but it does appear travelers who wish to visit Hawaii’s parks and trails will have to pay a fee.
Those who think it’s a bad move or say it will deter them from visiting the state, well, perhaps you’re not the right tourist to be vacationing in Hawaii anyway.
Tourism fees are absolutely needed in areas where overtourism is an issue. Hawaii experienced a breath of fresh air from the lack of massive number of tourists during the pandemic. Charging travelers an entry fee to use natural areas that need to be preserved shouldn’t be scoffed at.
Plus, it may not even be a forever thing. Destinations have added and later dropped tourist fees over the years.
As long as the money is properly managed and maintained, a tourism fee is the right call for many places in the world.
If the money is?that much of an issue, bypass that next cup of coffee or alcoholic beverage or fast food burger, and put it towards the travel expenses.
Any tourism fee is worth paying when you can make great memories traveling to new and beautiful destinations.
