Travel destinations across the Caribbean region continue to update COVID-19 protocols as more nations re-open to visitors despite increases in infection rates in U.S. communities.

These tourism-reliant countries are taking extensive precautions to safeguard the health of travelers and their own residents and tourism workers, from the implementation of rigid protocols to new travel insurance policies that provide an extra layer of security.

Travelers in these nations are expected to observe COVID-19 protocols, but in most cases are permitted to experience a wide range of activities. Here are the latest COVID-19 protocols for the most popular Caribbean destinations.

U.S. travelers must submit a negative Covid-19 test result obtained three to five days prior to arrival and proof of travel insurance covering Covid-19-related treatment through Anguilla's visitor portal. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. Visitors will be given a PCR test on arrival, with a second test on day 14. Visitors must stay in place until a negative result is obtained.

Update: Revised fees for entry procedures and protocols start at $500 per couple. Families pay $300 for the main applicant and $250 per additional member. Fees cover two tests per person, surveillance, public health and costs for the additional public health presence and a digital work permit.

U.S. travelers must complete a traveler accommodation form prior to travel and submit proof of a negative PCR test. Visitors that stay at certified accommodations are able to visit certified restaurants, excursions and activities such as weddings. So long as they have the negative test, fill out the form and are staying at a certified property they can leave to participate in any of the other certified activities. Though, if you are staying at a non-certified property - you will need to quarantine for 14 days. All residents and visitors are required to wear masks in public places.

Entry process: Travelers are required to fill out an embarkation/disembarkation card 72 to four hours prior to travel. Travelers residing in high infection rate states required to take PCR test within 72 hours of departure and upload results at least 12 hours prior to their Aruba departure. Other U.S. visitors may take a PCR test upon arrival in Aruba.

Update: Aruba is partnering with JetBlue Airways to extend pre-flight PCR testing of incoming airline visitors. The supervised, at-home tests offer travelers "convenience, quick turnaround and accuracy."

Incoming travelers must complete an online immigration and customs form 24 hours prior to arrival and submit proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival. Travelers must quarantine at an approved hotel villa or guesthouse. A second PCR test is required on day two or day three after arrival with results obtained 24 hours later. Travelers are not permitted to leave their accommodations or go to the beach until they receive the negative result of the second PCR test.

Update: Barbados' government has partnered with Stage Zero Life Sciences to provide an "end-to-end" COVID-19 testing process designed to enable travelers to provide approved test results within the three-day window the country requires for entry.

Travelers must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result conducted within 72 hours of departure. Travelers without a pre-travel test result will be tested at the airport upon arrival in Belize (at their own expense) and must await their test results while remaining at their designated hotel. Visitors are required to download the Belize Health app on their mobile phone and complete the registration via the app within 72 hours of their departure.

Update: Under phase three of the country's travel reopening plan, visitors may stay in hotels or resorts within Belize's Safe Tourism Corridor that have earned Belize's "Tourism Gold Standard" certification.

Travelers must complete an online Bermuda travel authorization process within 48 hours of departure. Visitors age 10 and up must submit proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than seven days before departure. Visitors must take a COVID-19 test upon arrival and quarantine in a hotel room until results are obtained (usually six to eight hours). Travelers are required to register via BVI's online portal at least 48 hours prior to departure, obtain the traveler authorization certificate and submit proof of a negative PCR test taken within three days of departure and medical insurance including COVID-19 coverage. Visitors will have a health screening, take a PCR test and download a contact tracing app upon arrival at the welcome center at Terrance Lettsome airport. Visitors will quarantine for four days at certified accommodations, followed by another PCR test. Guests who test negative may visit designated locations.

Update: B.V.I. borders open to U.S. travelers on Dec. 1.

The territory remains closed to U.S. visitors. Although a date for the return of U.S. travelers has not been announced, reopening will occur in phases and all travelers must register via the Cayman Islands' online portal to receive pre-travel authorization.

Update: The Cayman Islands is testing a health monitoring device to monitor visitors for early COVID-19 symptoms, which may be used when borders reopen to US travelers.

The southern Caribbean nation will reopen to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut residents in November. Travelers from the three states must present and upload proof of a negative PCR test and obtain a digital immigration card via Curacao's online entry portal within 72 hours of traveling. A passenger locator card must also be uploaded within 48 hours of departure; visitors must present a state-issued ID upon arrival.

Update: A monitoring system run by the island's public health office includes personalized phone calls to all incoming visitors during their time in Curacao. Updated Oct. 12.

Entry process: Travelers are required to complete an online health affidavit and take a temperature check upon arrival. A rapid COVID-19 PCR test will be performed on randomly selected travelers. If positive, the traveler quarantines in a designated area within his hotel and is regularly tested until symptoms are gone.

Update: The government's Plan for the Responsible Recovery of Tourism includes free health and travel insurance coverage through December 31 and covers hospitalization for coronavirus in the Dominican Republic, telemedicine services, costs for extended hotel stays and airline ticket changes.

Visitors must present a negative PCR test taken within seven days of travel and proof of a minimum four-day reservation from one of Grenada's "Pure Safe" hotels or resorts. Visitors are also required to download a mobile contact-tracing app. Visitors must quarantine at their hotel for the first four days of their visit.

Update: Visitors may opt for a PCR test after day four and if negative, may travel across Grenada.

Entry process: Travelers required to complete online travel authorization from two to five days prior to planned arrival in Jamaica. Approved travelers receive a certificate that must be submitted during airline check-in. U.S. travelers must upload results of a negative COVID-19 test, up to 10 days prior to departure. Visitors are restricted to Jamaica's "Resilient Corridors" which include 80 percent of tourism sites.

Updates: The Jamaica Cares program, which provides travel protection and emergency services for travelers, takes effect in November. It is mandatory for every non-Jamaican passport holder and costs $40 per person, payable at the time the Travel Authorization is approved.

Entry process: Travelers are required to complete an online travel declaration form and obtain an airport exit confirmation number and QR code, provided automatically to applicants who upload proof of a negative COVID-19 test via the portal.

Update: Arriving visitors must quarantine for 14 days at their lodging or the length of the stay, whichever is shorter, or until negative test results are provided.

Visitors must complete an entry form and submit a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival to the destination's online portal. Travelers must undergo a health screening on arrival and download a contract-tracing app to be used for the first 14 days of travel. Visitors staying fewer than seven days must take a PCR test 72 hours before departing the dual-island nation. Visitors must stay in one of the islands' approved hotels for the first seven days.

Update: Travelers are required to take a PCR test on day seven; if negative, travelers can book select excursions and access select destination sites booked through their approved hotel's tour desk.

Visitors are required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test performed within seven days of travel and complete a pre-arrival registration form. Passengers will be screened on arrival; symptomatic passengers will be tested and quarantined at their hotel until a result is received. If positive, they will be isolated at one of two hospitals.

Update: Travelers are required to indicate the certified hotel they will occupy during their visit.

A health declaration must be uploaded at dual-nation Sint Maarten's online portal prior to departure. U.S. visitors must submit proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within five days of arrival.

Update: Borders between Dutch St. Maarten and French St. Martin have reopened to visitors.

U.S. travelers must complete a pre-arrival form and arrive with a negative Covid-19 test administered no more than seven days prior to arrival. Travelers are also required to re-test upon arrival and quarantine for five days in a St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority-approved hotel.

Update: Visitors will be re-tested on days four and day five and continue to quarantine for nine to 16 days or until a test result is negative.

Travelers are required to submit a Bahamas health travel visa and a negative PCR test taken five days prior to arrival and take a COVID-19 rapid antigen test on day five of their visit. Visitors must also complete a daily health questionnaire during their stay. Visitors may travel beyond their accommodations after the day five test is returned with a negative result.

Update: Bahamas travelers are required to opt in to COVID-19 health insurance designed to cover their stay in the territory. Insurance costs are included in the health visa application fee.

Visitors are required to submit a negative Covid-19 test result received within five days of travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands Travel Screening Portal. Upon arrival travelers must submit the test result and certification received from the portal.

Update: The updated online portal incorporates QR and color-coding technology to quickly process and confirm passengers' submissions. The territory is preparing for a significant flight increase this month.

International travelers required to obtain certification the "TCI Assured" an online portal after submitting a negative Covid-19 PCR test result taken within five days of travel; proof of travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, costs related to quarantine, ambulance care or care at a local hospital; and a health screening questionnaire.

Update: A TCI Assured certification is issued once documents are uploaded. The certification must be presented at the time of check-in.
