Recently released COVID-19 vaccines are opening up a world of possibility in terms of the future of travel. While 2020 virtually wiped out international travel and tourism, many Americans are more eager than ever to get out and experience different parts of the planet. And many destinations that typically rely on tourism to power their economies are just as keen to invite visitors back as soon as it can be done safely and responsibly.

The following is a collection of well-loved destination countries that are currently welcoming back U.S. travelers and the conditions under which each is doing so. If you're among those who can't wait to book an overseas trip, bear in mind that you'll need a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of your return flight for re-entry into the U.S.

All U.S. travelers to Antigua and Barbuda ages 12 or older must present a negative Covid-19 PCR test result upon arrival to enter the country. The test must have been taken within the previous seven days leading up to the passenger's arrival.

-Health officials may monitor foreign visitors for the first 14 days of their trip using tracking bracelets and travelers may be required to take another COVID-19 test after their arrival, quarantining while awaiting their results.

-The wearing of face masks in public spaces and practicing social distancing are mandatory throughout Antigua and Barbuda, for visitors and residents alike.

All visitors to Aruba (minors included) must complete an Embarkation/Disembarkation card process by submitting their personal details, health information and negative COVID-19 PCR test results from a sample taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel.

-All foreign travelers are also required to purchase an Aruba Visitors Insurance policy, which covers medical and non-medical expenses for any visitors who may test positive for COVID-19 during their trip. Visitors ages 15 or over will pay a flat fee of $30 for coverage, while policies for kids up to age 14 cost just $10.

-Be aware that the U.S. State Department has issued Aruba a Level 3: Reconsider Travel advisory, due to health and safety measures, and COVID-related conditions.

All travelers over the age of 10 must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result in order to enter The Bahamas. The test must have been performed no more than five days prior to the passenger's arrival, with the day the test was taken considered Day Zero.

-The next step is to upload test results as part of a Bahamas Travel Health Visa application. Applicants are required to opt-in to COVID-19 health insurance that will provide coverage for the duration of their stay, the cost of which is included in the application fee.

-All visitors staying in The Bahamas for longer than five days are required to take an antigen test on Day 5, and can get their results within an hour via text message or email.

To enter Barbados, passengers ages five and over must provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours of their arrival and will need to take a rapid antigen test upon arrival, as well.

-Currently, Barbados is dealing with a backlog of tests that need processing, so antigen test results can take up to 72 hours to receive (PCR test results are taking longer than 72 hours). Travelers are required to remain quarantined at an approved hotel or resort until they receive negative results from their second test.

-Travelers will need to complete an Immigration and Customs form online 24 hours prior to their arrival in Barbados and should ideally upload evidence of their negative COVID-19 PCR test results.

-Visitors are subject to monitoring by health authorities and may be required to wear electronic tracking bracelets.

-Travelers who've been vaccinated, or who have previously been infected and recovered from COVID-19, are requested to bring their documentation with them to help ensure that their test results are understood by health officials, although it will not change their requirements for entry.

To enter Belize, travelers must present negative results from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of travel or, alternatively, negative rapid antigen test results from a test taken no more than 48 hours prior to travel.

-Visitors must download the Belize Health App and fill in the required information within 72 hours of their flight. Users will receive a unique ID and QR code to show to health officers in Belize.

-Tourists may only stay at a government-approved 'Gold Standard' hotel and provide confirmation of their reservation upon arrival in the country. During their stay, they must remain within the 'safe corridor' and use only Gold Standard certified tour operators, attractions, sites, restaurants and transportation.

Bermuda is accepting U.S. travelers who arrive with negative COVID-19 PCR test results no more than five days old, with the day the test was administered being considered Day Zero.

-Adults and children ages 10 and over will need to take another PCR test at the airport upon arrival in Bermuda and then quarantine pending their results (usually available within 24 hours).

-Visitors are required to test again multiple times, on Day Four, Day Eight and Day 14, where the traveler's day of arrival in Bermuda is considered Day Zero.

-Inbound passengers aged 10 or older must apply for a Travel Authorization at a cost of $75 per adult and includes the cost of all COVID-19 testing in Bermuda. Children aged nine and younger aren't required to be tested, but must pay a Travel Authorization fee of $30.

-Visitors are required to wear a tracking wristband for the first 14 days of their stay.

-Visitors are advised to obtain travel-specific health insurance policies to cover the cost of any potential illness or medical treatment they may need while abroad, or they'll be directly held responsible for any such fees.

Brazil is still a relative COVID-19 hotspot among nations and continues to carry a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory with the U.S. State Department. Brazil itself has banned entry to foreigners by land and sea, but permits entry by air for short stays (up to 90 days).

Those traveling to Brazil by air must present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed within the 72 hours prior to boarding their flight.

-Arrivals must also complete an online Traveler's Health Declaration form, confirming that they agree to comply with health and safety measures while in Brazil.

Everyone who wants to enter Chile needs to arrive with proof of a negative PCR test performed no more than 72 hours prior to boarding.

-Travelers must also complete the Traveler's Sworn Statement electronically at least 48 hours before boarding.

-Visitors to Chile are required to provide their airline with proof that they've purchased a traveler's health insurance policy with a minimum of $30,000 coverage to pay for medical costs if they were to come down with COVID-19 during their trip.

-Visitors are required to submit an electronic tracking form on a daily basis for the first two weeks of their trip.

Foreign travelers to Colombia must present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed within the 96 hours prior to takeoff.

-If you don't arrive with test results in hand, you may state that you had difficulty getting tested at your place of origin, then take a test immediately upon entering Colombia and quarantine pending the results. Otherwise, you'll need to quarantine for a full 14 days.

Costa Rica is welcoming U.S. residents and travelers are no longer required to take a COVID-19 PCR test to enter the country.

-All travelers (including minors) must complete the digital Health Pass form, which is available online 48 hours prior to boarding.

-Foreign visitors are required to obtain travel medical insurance to cover any COVID-related medical treatment or quarantine lodging they may need while in Costa Rica. Minimum coverage amounts are US$50,000 for medical costs and US$2,000 for extended lodging expenses.

Travelers to the Dominican Republic (DR) no longer need to provide a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival. Instead, airport authorities will be administering quick breath tests to between three and 15 percent of arriving passengers (as well as anyone presenting with symptoms), as well as temperature checks for everyone.

-All air passengers must complete a Traveler's Health Affidavit, Customs Declaration and International Embarkation/Disembarkation forms, which can be accessed via the Electronic Ticket Portal beginning 72 hours before their flight.

-The DR's Ministry of Tourism now offers COVID-19 antigen testing to all international travelers staying in hotels, according to CNN.

-The U.S. Embassy in the DR says that PCR test results are being reliably reported within 72 hours, but this could be affected if demand increases.

Travelers to Ecuador must present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed no more than ten days prior to entering the country, with no exceptions.

-The Ministry of Health will also perform rapid antigen testing will also be performed at random on passengers at the airport upon arrival.

-For PCR tests needed to return to the U.S., there is a list of laboratories in Ecuador here. The U.S. Embassy recommends that you advise the lab that your test is needed for imminent air travel, as test results have been known to take longer than the promised 24 to 48 hours.

All travelers ages six and older must present a certificate of negative COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to their departure time in order to enter Egypt. In some places, the policy says tests up to 96 hours old will be accepted, but there have been reports of people being denied at the border for tests over 72 hours old.

-Visitors must have paper copies of their test certificates on hand-digital versions are not accepted.

-Inbound travelers must present proof that they have health insurance.

-Contact the Egyptian Embassy in Washington D.C. or the nearest Consulate for detailed information on which specific insurance policies are accepted by the Egyptian government.

U.S. travelers are still permitted to visit Ireland, but must present negative COVID-19 PCR test results taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival.

-Anyone arriving without a negative PCR test result faces a fine of �2,500 (US$3,040) or six months in jail and must take a test within 36 hours of their arrival in Ireland. It's also a legal offense to refuse testing, which carries cash penalties and the possibility of imprisonment.

-All foreign travelers must complete a COVID-19 Passenger Locator Form

-With few exceptions, those traveling to Ireland at this time will find the scope of their visit to be quite limited. All arrivals are required to self-isolate and restrict their movements 14 days, although there is an early-release option if you take another test after five days.

In order to enter Jamaica, all U.S. travelers over the age of eleven must present negative results from a COVID-19 PCR or antigen test administered by a CLIA-certified lab no more than ten days prior to their travel date. Samples collected using home test kits are not acceptable.

-All travelers must apply online for a Travel Authorization-submitting their personal and health information, and details of their intended stay-which can be submitted anytime within the five-day period prior to the intended travel date, in order to board a flight to Jamaica.

-Jamaica has recently expanded its COVID-19 testing capacity in response to new CDC requirements for travelers entering the U.S. to ensure that test results are reliably reported within 72 hours.

All travelers arriving in The Maldives over the age of one are required to present negative COVID-19 PCR test results from a sample taken no more than 96 hours prior to their scheduled flight time.

-The Government of Maldives will also be performing random testing on arrivals as part of the country's health surveillance measures.

-Guests can obtain the PCR tests they'll need for the return trip to the U.S. through their hotel or resort, and results are reliably reported within 72 hours.

Although land borders between the U.S. and Mexico remain closed to non-essential travel, vacationers can still fly into Mexico without issue. There are no testing or quarantine requirements to enter Mexico, nor have there been throughout the course of the pandemic.

-Bear in mind that Mexico has been issued a Level 3: Reconsider Travel advisory by the U.S. State Department, which has listed several states to avoid due to high levels of crime.

-Multiple Mexican states and cities are working to ensure that COVID-19 testing is readily available for travelers who need results within 72 hours to return to the U.S. Many resorts and hotels are even offering onsite and complimentary testing for their guests.

Passengers arriving in Panama must present negative results from a COVID-19 PCR or antigen test performed no more than 48 hours prior to arrival at the destination. If pre-travel testing isn't feasible within that time frame, a rapid antigen test will be required at the airport upon arrival and prior to passing through Customs.

-Travel health insurance is not mandated, but is highly recommended.

-Travelers must also complete an electronic Health Affidavit.

All travelers entering Peru must have either a negative COVID-19 PCR test result, negative antigen test result or medical certificate of epidemiological discharge that is no more than 72 hours old. Children under the age of 12 are only required to present a medical certificate of good health instead of test results.

-Visitors must also complete an online Affidavit of Health and Geolocation Authorization.

-The U.S. Embassy in Peru reports that PCR and antigen tests are readily available in Peru and that test results are reliably reported within 72 hours.

-The U.S. State Department had assigned Peru a Level 3: Reconsider Travel advisory due to crime and terrorism.

All travelers ages five and older arriving in St. Lucia must arrive with a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken no more than five days prior to travel, with the testing day considered as Day 1.

-Visitors must complete a Travel Registration Form and have a printed copy on hand.

-Travelers must have confirmed reservations at a COVID-certified hotel or resort, and are required to stay on property at all times, except if participating in hotel-organized, water-based excursions.

-COVID-19 tests for return to the U.S. are conveniently available at select hotels or local testing facilities at a cost of $100 each. The State Department reports that results are consistently available within 72 hours.

-The State Department has issued St. Lucia a Level 3: Reconsider Travel advisory, due to present health and safety measures and, COVID-related conditions.
