Mexicos new airport in Tulum will welcome its first
international flights from the United States, starting on March 28, according
to the Riviera
Maya News.
Dubbed Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum Felipe Carrillo
Puerto, the Mexican airport opened to national service in December, and flights
from the U.S. will debut when Spirit Airlines begins offering nonstop daily
flights from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando to Tulum next week.
American Airlines will also launch four daily flights between
Tulum
and Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, and Miami, beginning on March 28.?
A few days later on March 31, United Airlines will begin nonstop
service with 22 weekly flights from Newark/New York, Houston, and Chicago.
Other international carriers are scheduled to begin serving Tulum
International Airport this summer, including JetBlue
adding service to the Mexican city from New York City, starting on June 13.
In January, Quintana Roo officials announced the addition of
more members of the Mexican Navy to patrol popular tourism areas in Tulum to combat
rising crime. The additional personnel were deployed in the airport and in
tourist zones.
