United Airlines announced February 4 that it will be restarting its service to Tel Aviv, Israel following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas starting this March.?
The air carrier is the second American airline announcing a return to Israel following the ceasefire, expected to begin its New York/Newark to Tel Aviv service on March 15, with two daily flights starting March 29.?
Delta Air Lines announced its own April 1 return at the end of January on the heels of major European air carriers, including British Airways, Lufthansa, ITA Airways and others.?
According to the airline, the flights will be operated on Boeing 787-10 aircraft and some flights will be operated through partner airlines, such as Lufthansa Group.?
This resumption follows a detailed assessment of operational considerations for the region and close work with the unions who represent our flight attendants and pilots, said the statement from United.?
More flights may be added at a later date.
United Airlines, along with other major air carriers, had suspended flights heading to Israel following the outbreak of the war in Gaza, which began October 2023. Since then, it has tried to restart operations, but had to halt again on July 31, 2024 following a surge in the conflict, which in total is estimated to have killed over 46,600 Palestinians, the vast majority of which were civilians.?
The U.S. State Department currently classifies Israel under a customized warning level, warning Americans to reconsider travel to Israel and the West Bank and urging Americans not to travel specifically to Gaza or Israels northern borders.?

The flights launching this spring by United and Delta Airlines will allow for a significant increase in airlift, enabling American travelers to more easily and economically visit Israel.
