There's more than just the eclipse to get excited about next week-especially if you are thinking about getting away.
Summer is synonymous with travel but, for those looking for a bargain, August 21-22 are the magic dates.
According to Rick Seaney from FareCompare, these are the dates when the "fall season" begins. The savings are worth the wait. Depending on where you are going, prices fall between 11 and 20 percent.
Popular places such as Paris, New York City, Dallas, or Orlando will once again feel like they are in reach where flight prices are concerned.
The biggest savings are on longer haul flights. Flying from New York to Paris and Los Angeles to New York see savings of more than $200.
Not ready to buy?
This won't be your last chance for low fares. Deals are just beginning to crop up, so if you don't buy a ticket next week, you are definitely not out of luck.
Here are some of FareCompare's other cheap flight-finding tips:
-For U.S. airfares, shop on Tuesday at around 3 p.m. Eastern time.
-There's a sweet spot for deals: Purchase domestic tickets between three months and 30 days out. For International travel, buy flights between five-and-a-half to one-and-a-half months out.
-Always compare fares.
-Fly the cheapest days and times. In the U.S., Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are the cheapest. Fridays and Sundays are always more. And flights that are at odd times of the day when people are likely not to want to travel are more affordable.
-Connecting flights sometimes offer savings of up to 50 percent.
