Everyone
knows the Biden administration has a special affinity for the railroads. After
all, the current president used to be a heavy Amtrak user going back and forth
from his home in Delaware to Washington, D.C. when he was a senator.
So this
will come as no surprise.
Amtrak will
invest $300 million over five years in train stations in the Great Lakes
region for upgrades and improvements.
Improvements
will be made to the tracks and the platforms of the famous Lake
Shore Limited lines that run between New York and Chicago, as well as the
Washington, D.C. corridor.
※An expansion of Amtrak
service is exciting news for all communities along these two heavily-traveled
routes and opens the potential for daylight service to Ohio, Indiana and
Pennsylvania cities that currently see trains come and go in the wee hours of the
night or early morning,§ said
Bill Hutchison, spokesman, Lakeshore Rail Alliance.
※All of these stations need
not only a second, active platform, but easier ways for passengers, especially
those with disabilities or older passengers, to get from one track to the other
safely."
Work is expected to begin
shortly.
Amtrak is already trying to make
subtle improvements to the train experience.
