Hurtigruten has appointed the world’s first “chief aurora chaser” to help guests get the most out of their Northern Lights viewing experiences while cruising along the coast of Norway.
The cruise line is partnering with Tom Kerss, an independent astronomer and author based in London. Kerss will sail with passengers on select Northern Lights voyages, offering insights into the mysterious aurora borealis. He’ll lead workshops, organize activities, host webinars and offer digital lectures.?

Hurtigruten has named Tom Kerss Chief Aurora Chaser.
“Together, we will not only witness the Northern Lights but also unravel the secrets and stories behind its beauty and nature, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime," says Kerss.
The appointment of Kerss comes on the heels of Hurigruten’s announcement that it would be extending its Northern Lights Promise to voyages that depart starting in mid-September. The company guarantees that travelers will see the Northern Lights during their sailing, or they’ll get another cruise for free.
"With Tom Kerss as our very own Chief Aurora Chaser, the world’s first-ever as far as we know, we're taking our Northern Lights commitment to new heights,”says Hedda Felin, chief executive officer of Hurtigruten. “Together, we're revolutionizing the Northern Lights experience, offering guests an unparalleled opportunity to witness this breathtaking phenomenon in the most immersive way imaginable."
