MSC World America is one step closer to launching.
The new 6,762-guest vessel completed sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean and is now entering the final phase of preparation before its debut in April.?
During sea trials, crews checked the performance of the 22-deck ships engines, maneuverability, fuel consumption, safety systems, speed and stopping distances. The team at Chantiers de lAtlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France, will now put the finishing touches on the 216,638-gross-ton vessel before delivering it to the cruise line on March 27.?
The vesselwhich is the 23rd ship in the MSC Cruises fleet and the third to be powered by liquified natural gaswill be officially named on April 9 at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal. From there, it will offer cruises to the Caribbean.?
Measuring 1,093 feet long and 154 feet wide, the ship has 2,614 cabins and more than 413,334 square feet of public space. Guests will be able to enjoy 18 bars and lounges and 19 dining venues, including the worlds only Eataly restaurant at sea.
The new MSC Cruise Terminal is equipped to offer shore power and MSC World America is outfitted with shore power connectivity, which will allow for the ships engines to be turned off in port. This not only reduces emissions but also improves local air quality.
