The Mexican government has issued all necessary permits and approved construction plans for the new Amikoo Park in Riviera Maya.
According to the Riviera Maya News, the Maya-themed park Amikoo Amusement Park and Resort project was originally announced by Mexico's president Enrique Pe?a Nieto and businessman Carlos Peralta in September 2017.
The construction project will replace the DreamWorks project for Riviera Maya, which was replaced as a way to remain competitive in the Mexican market. Officials believe the Maya cosmogony will resonate more with locals than the atmosphere and characters of the DreamWorks Studios.
The park can now move forward with its first construction phase, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019. The second phase will open to the public between 2020 and 2021.
The facilities will include a 320-room hotel, a Maya archaeological and anthropology museum and more than 40 attractions, shows and restaurants. When open, the park is expected to attract approximately 4.5 million visitors annually.
