If you love Southwest Airlines (or at least cheap flights) and happen to live in California, now is an ideal time to score cheap flights and get involved with credit card rewards.
Through the end of November, Southwest Airlines is offering one heck of a deal for California residents-a free Companion Pass if you meet certain conditions.
Here's how the offer works:
Sign up for the co-branded Southwest credit card from Chase and you'll automatically receive the Southwest Companion Pass, which is good for buy-one-get-one Southwest flights for the year you sign up and the entire next year.
With the BOGO flights, you can score a second free flight whether you pay for the first flight in cash or points. The only fees you're responsible for are government-mandated airline taxes and fees that work out to $5.60 per leg for domestic flights and usually less than $100 per person for international flights.
While scoring an easy BOGO flight offer that's good for a year can be a lucrative endeavor if you fly a lot, keep in mind that the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier credit card is a winner on its own.
Currently, this card is offering 40,000 points if you use your card for at least $1,000 in purchases within three months of account opening. That's enough for at least one round-trip international flight, which you will be able to double to two free flights with the Companion Pass.
Beyond the signup bonus, the Southwest card makes it easy to earn more rewards. You'll earn 2 points per $1 spent on Southwest purchases, for starters. Not only that, but you'll earn 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases made with the card.
Also keep in mind that, if you have a premier Chase travel credit card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can transfer your points to Southwest Airlines at a 1:1 ratio.
Several other programs make racking up Southwest Rapid Rewards points easier than ever as well. Southwest has its own dining program, which lets you earn more points when you use your card to dine at select restaurants in your area. You can also click through the Southwest shopping portal to earn extra points for all your holiday shopping at stores like Macy's and Best Buy.
While the Southwest Rapid Rewards program is lucrative on its own, California residents can take their rewards to another level for a limited time. Not only can they score 40,000 miles with a new credit card signup bonus, but they can get BOGO flights for a year as well.
With Southwest adding Hawaii to its roster of destinations, now is a great time to consider this offer. It's also worth noting that Southwest Airlines flies all over the United States and to select Caribbean destinations such as Aruba, Nassau, Punta Cana, Turks & Caicos and Grand Cayman.
