“Ted Lasso” star Hannah Waddingham has been named the godmother of Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Sun Princess. The award-winning British actress and singer will christen the ship during an official naming ceremony in Barcelona on April 23.
Waddingham joins a star-studded list of Princess Cruises godmothers—one that includes actual royalty. Both Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, have served as godmothers. Other notable names include Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren and Martha Stewart.

"Just like Sun Princess, she exudes sophistication, beauty and wonderment through her inspiring work as a talented and award-winning actress and performer,” says John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises. “We're truly honored Hannah will officially name our most impressive, luxurious and stunning Love Boat ever created, and join an esteemed group of Princess Godparents including members of the Royal family."
Sun Princess debuted in late February after several?delays. The 177,882-ton ship can accommodate up to 4,300 passengers and features several innovative design features, including The Dome, a geodesic, glass-enclosed structure at the top of the ship. It's also equipped with food waste biodigesters and offers extensive onboard entertainment options.
Right now, the ship is sailing in the Mediterranean but will eventually head to Fort Lauderdale for its first Caribbean season in October.
Waddingham is best known for playing Rebecca Welton on “Ted Lasso,” a role that has earned her a wide array of awards—a Primetime Emmy, Critics Choice Television Award and Screen Actors Guild Award, as well as two individual Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations. She will also appear in “The Fall Guy” when it hits theaters in early May, as well as "Garfield" and "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two."
