Napa Valley is the most romantic destination in the U.S.
According to U.S. News and World Reports, the rolling hills and luxurious hotels of California's premier wine destination beat out the rest of the competition, and Kauai is a worthy number-two with its incredible coastline, beautiful rainforests and high-end accommodations.
The number-three spot went to Maui, long known as a luxe hideaway.
"Sometimes it's necessary to take a break from the stresses of real life and spend quality time with the person you love. And what better way to do that than to travel?" said Gwen Shearman, travel editor at U.S. News.
"To help you and your significant other plan the ideal romantic getaway, whether it's for a honeymoon, an anniversary or just because, we've narrowed down the most enchanting destinations," added Shearman.
U.S. News and World Reports relied on help from user votes and expert opinions to formulate the list. It considered ambiance, privacy and a location's reputation as well as the number of couple-friendly activities to rank the most romantic retreats.
The full list of romantic getaways in the U.S. includes Napa Valley, Kauai, Maui, Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.
Napa Valley, while famous for its wine is also a couple's paradise. The valley exudes romance with a scenic coast, cozy wineries and intimate settings galore. It is the perfect place to spend some alone time with a loved one, and a long list of luxury properties and top wineries adds to the allure of a truly high-end experience.

Savannah, Georgia, with its warm climate, seductive Spanish moss and rich history, came in number one on that list. Followed by Portland, Maine; Sedona, Arizona; Cannon Beach, Oregon; and Asheville, North Carolina (also known for its fall leaf-peeping).
When it comes to the ultimate romantic getaway-the honeymoon-nothing beats Tuscany, Italy, which was the number-one destination.
Couples will not come up short when it comes to honeymooning in Tuscany. Florence alone is a symbol of art, beauty and love with its cobblestone streets, museums filled with antiquities, sidewalk cafes brimming with delicacies and more. That doesn't even touch on the region as a whole, which is known for rolling hills dotted with vineyards and olive trees, boutique hotels espousing romantic spaces, a mild climate and technicolor sunsets.
Tuscany was followed by iconic honeymoon hotspot, Tahiti, French Polynesia, and taking the number-three spot was Bora Bora, also in French Polynesia.
French Polynesia is overflowing with romantic options for couples-albeit in a completely different and more tropical manner. Instead of hills of vineyards, visitors will find sunsets that drop off into infinity, lagoons teeming with tropical fish and islands draped with lush vegetation.
St. Lucia and Fiji were the fourth and fifth best destinations, however, both are incredibly worthy locales for romance and can easily compete with tropical French Polynesia on a global romance scale.
