The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger shared a handful of updates at the company's annual meeting of shareholders on Wednesday, including news regarding the highly anticipated Avatar experience at Southern California's Disneyland Resort.
Iger and Disney revealed a new piece of artwork hinting at the Avatar experience following the approval of DisneylandForward, a multi-year public planning effort to update the theme park's land use approvals.
"We were thrilled to unveil a piece of inspirational artwork developed for a potential new Avatar experience at the Disneyland Resort. We are excited about the stories our guests could experience at Walts original theme park destination after approval of DisneylandForward C including the chance to experience all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to Pandora," Josh D'Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences, wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.
"Avatar is the latest example of how we are looking to create new and innovative ways to bring our powerful stories to life. Over the past decade, weve delivered massive, immersive experiences at our destinations around the world, including new lands and attractions based on Star Wars, the Avengers, Pixar and more," added D'Amaro.
Disney brass also reminded travelers that Tianas Bayou Adventure is on track to open at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Disneyland this year while Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea is also coming soon. The latter marks the largest single-land expansion ever at a Disney park.
In Paris, guests can look forward to the transformed Disneyland Hotel and the soon-to-come Frozen-themed land at Walt Disney Studios Park.
Meanwhile, Disney Cruise Line will open a new island destination in the Bahamas at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point this summer, followed by the arrival of the line's newest ship, Disney Treasure.
Finally, D'Amaro confirmed that Disney's "relationship with Epic Games is going to create a new games and entertainment universe that will connect fans and players with our characters in ways we have never done before."
