Sometimes it's hard choosing between dessert and a cocktail, but now ice cream and liquor go hand in hand so you don't have to.
Six shops around the U.S. have mastered the art of serving treats from your childhood that will also get you a little tipsy. Has there ever been an adult pleasure greater than ice cream drenched in booze? I think not.
Below, where to go for the best spiked scoops from New York City to Los Angeles and beyond.
Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream in Manhattan
This Lower East Side ice cream parlor created by Nicholas Morgenstern-a New York restaurateur and classically trained pastry chef-is tiny, but packs a punch. Morgenstern's focus is texture-driven, small-batch ice cream that's just plain amazing.
I mean, there are four different vanilla flavors, for crying out loud. Boozy scoops include Bourbon Vanilla and Cinnamon Whiskey and can be delivered to your doorstep locally and nationwide.
Tipsy Scoop in Manhattan
Everything at Tipsy Scoop is liquor-infused and flavors range from classics like Spiked Hazelnut Coffee and Red Velvet Martini to special seasonal scoops like Dirty Chai. All flavors are up to five percent ABV, inspired by classic and contemporary cocktails and are made with local and seasonal ingredients.
Not in NYC? Don't worry-Tipsy Scoop ships pints across the U.S.
Aubi & Ramsa in Miami
With locations in Miami's Design District and now in Aventura Mall, Aubi & Ramsa is a 21+ ice cream shop that looks like the most beautiful minimalistic cocktail bar with white marble countertops, gold bar chairs and lots of indoor plants.
The shop stays open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and boasts super rich flavors like the Highland Truffle single malt ice cream, a Belgian Chocolate ice cream made with Macallan 12 YR and a smooth touch of chocolate chunks. On the lighter side, you'll find flavors like the Strawberries and Ros Champagne Sorbet, a sweet and tart strawberry sorbet made with Veuve Clicquot Ros and St. Germain.
This new spot is exactly what Miami needed.
Prohibition Creamery in Austin
Intrigued by the science of ice cream making-and yes, it is definitely a science-the founder of Prohibition studied science and technology before attending Penn State's 120-year-old ice cream program. Now, she offers her clients a menu of Intoxicating Handcrafted Delights, her absolute favorite ice cream flavors, all with a boozy twist.
Don't miss the daily happy hour here or the rotating flavor of the day. A few of our flavors are Whiskey Chocolate, Sangria Sorbet and Pecan Buttered Rum.
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in Los Angeles
The brand's first store might have opened in Ohio, but my personal favorite is the Jeni's in L.A., specifically the Los Feliz location.
This bright and sunny ice cream shop is in the middle of one of L.A.'s most happening neighborhoods and has a selection of not-your-average boozy flavors including Brandied Banana Br?le made with small batch brandy, Fros Sorbet and a mouthwatering Middle West Whiskey & Pecans.
My favorite thing about Jeni-the person-is that she's equal parts scientist, perfumer and ice cream maker. She also embodies that childlike spirit.
The Ice Cream Bar in San Francisco
If an old-fashioned ice cream parlor and a bar had a baby, you'd get 'Frisco's Ice Cream Bar. The family-friendly ice cream bar offers virgin treats for the kiddos but has an entire menu of "Remedies" for the 21-and-over crowd.
These are mostly fountain drinks with alcohol, like the Sunday Morning made with seasonal fruit sorbet and Mumm Napa Brut Prestige sparkling wine and the Royal Red Milkshake with Duchesse De Bourgogne Flemish Red Ale, Toro Albala Don PX 2010 sherry, Morello cherry ice cream and turbinado syrup.
